The 2016 Tandridge District Council election took place on 5 May 2016 to elect members of Tandridge District Council in England. [1] This was on the same day as other local elections. [2]
The Conservatives lost three seats but remain in control of the council. The Leader of the Council, Gordon Keymer CBE lost his seat [3] to Oxted & Limpsfield Residents' Group candidate Jackie Wren with a swing of 49.3%. The Liberal Democrats picked up the other two gains.
The Liberal Democrats are a liberal, centrist political party in the United Kingdom. They presently have 11 Members of Parliament in the House of Commons, 96 members of the House of Lords, and one member of the European Parliament. They also have five Members of the Scottish Parliament and a member each in the Welsh Assembly and London Assembly. The party reached the height of its influence in the early 2010s, forming a junior partner in a coalition government from 2010 to 2015. It is presently led by Vince Cable.

Warlingham is a village in the Tandridge district of Surrey, England, 14.2 miles (22.9 km) south of the centre of London and 22.3 miles (35.9 km) east of the county town, Guildford. Warlingham is the centre of a civil parish that includes Hamsey Green, a contiguous, smaller settlement to the north. Caterham is the nearest town, 2.0 miles (3.2 km) to the southwest.

A by-election was held in Limpsfield ward on 13 October 2016 following the resignation of Conservative Cllr John Pannett.
Limpsfield is a village and civil parish in the east of the county of Surrey, England, by Oxted at the foot of the North Downs. The town Oxted merges with the village's westernmost area, Oxted railway station being within 300m of the residential East Hill in the village and under a mile from Limpsfield's conservation area High Street. The English composer Frederick Delius and orchestral conductor Sir Thomas Beecham are both buried in the village churchyard and there are 89 listed buildings.

Tandridge is a local government district in east Surrey, England containing part of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, part of the Weald and the towns of Warlingham, Caterham, Oxted, Godstone and Lingfield. The area has several woodlands and some open heathland. Elevations above sea level range from 267 m (876 ft) at Botley Hill, North Downs to 42 m (138 ft) near Edenbridge. The district council offices are in Oxted, the second biggest settlement in the district.
East Surrey is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Sam Gyimah of the Conservative Party.
