The 2016 Thurrock Council election took place on 5 May 2016 to elect members of Thurrock Council in England. [2] This was on the same day as other local elections.

Thurrock Council

Thurrock Council is the local council for the borough of Thurrock in Essex, England. Since 1997, Thurrock has been a unitary authority, combining the functions of a non-metropolitan county with that of a non-metropolitan district. The other such authority in Essex is Southend-on-Sea. It is a member of the East of England Local Government Association.

There remains no overall control of the council. The Labour administration could have continued, until removed by a special motion, [3] but Councillor Kent chose to resign at the Annual Meeting and the leader of the Conservative group Councillor Gledhill was elected to replace him.

Jackie Doyle-Price British politician

Jacqueline Doyle-Price is a British Conservative Party politician and former civil servant. She was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Thurrock in the May 2010 general election, retaining the seat in 2015 and 2017. She was appointed Junior Minister in the Department of Health on 14 June 2017. On 10 October 2018, she was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State the first minister to be in this post after being created by the Prime Minister in responses to the UK hosting the global mental health summit.

The result of the Thurrock Council election, 2010 was that Thurrock Council stay under no overall control. The Conservative party gained two seats from Labour while Labour gained one seat from the Conservatives. Of the 16 wards contested, eight were won by the Conservatives and eight by Labour. Local elections were held in the United Kingdom on 3 May 1979. The results provided some source of comfort to the Labour Party (UK), who recovered some lost ground from local election reversals in previous years, despite losing the general election to the Conservative Party on the same day.

Anne Cheale was a councillor in Thurrock, England and former leader of the Conservative group on Thurrock Council who was first elected to the council in 2000 to represent the Corringham and Fobbing Ward.

On 5 May 2011, one-third of seats on Thurrock Council were contested. The result of the election was that Thurrock Council stayed under no overall control. The Labour gained one seat from the Conservative party.

Tim Aker British politician

Timür Mark "Tim" Aker is a British politician and a Thurrock Independents Member of the European Parliament for the East of England region. He was elected as a UK Independence Party (UKIP) candidate in 2014. He was head of UKIP's Policy Unit from August 2013 to January 2015, and was UKIP's candidate for the Thurrock constituency in the 2015 general election, coming third in a close 3-way election. Aker joined the Thurrock Independents as a councillor in 2018, leaving UKIP for good later that year.

Elections to Essex County Council took place on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 local elections. All 75 councillors were elected from 70 electoral divisions, which each returned either one or two councillors by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office.

The 2018 Thurrock Council elections took place on 3 May 2018 to elect members of Thurrock Council in England. Councillors in 16 out of the 20 electoral wards were be up for election.The council remained under overall control, with a minority Conservative administration running the council.
