Aurora concert chronology |
The Gods We Can Touch Tour was the fourth concert tour and world tour by Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, undertaken in support of her fourth studio album, The Gods We Can Touch (2022). The tour started on March 27, 2022, at the Town Hall in Birmingham, and was concluded on September 9, 2023, at the Lollapalooza Berlin, spanning 113 shows in Europe, North America, Latin America, [1] Asia and Oceania.
The European and also first leg of the tour was announced on 9 July 2021; general sale for the leg started on 16 July. [2]
On 14 October, Aurora was announced as the headliner of Øyafestivalen, [3] the largest music festival in Norway, as part of the tour. She performed on 13 August 2022 on the main stage for an audience of approximately 20,000 people, marking her biggest show in the country. [4] The British magazine NME reviewed the concert and rated it 100/100: "Aurora shines at the festival of the future". [5]
The second leg of the tour visited North America in May and June 2022. [6]
Australia and New Zealand dates for the tour were announced on 26 August 2022. [7]
The fifth announced leg of the tour, with dates throughout Asia, was revealed on Aurora's social media accounts and official website on 18 November. [8]
This set list is representative of the show on 13 August 2022 in Oslo. It is not representative of all concerts for the duration of the tour. [5]
On 26 March 2023, as Aurora concluded her performance at Lollapalooza Brasil, her drummer, Sigmund Vestrheim, gestured with his hands in a manner that some of the singer's fans interpreted as a white supremacist dog whistle. [10] Two days later, internet users, upon examining Vestrheim's Instagram, discovered additional alleged evidence of dog whistles and Nazi symbolism, such as a drawing featuring the numbers 777 and a swastika. [11] Aurora addressed the situation on the same day, rejecting claims that the drummer is a white supremacist and asserting that none of her band members endorse right-wing political ideologies. [10] The response was mostly perceived as a defense of her drummer. [12] [13]
Based on subsequent analyses, all of the alleged dog whistles were false and distorted except for the drawing containing the swastika, which the drummer himself classified as a childish and irresponsible mistake from his teenage years. The number 777 was a reference to the record label 777music, with which Sigmund has been associated since 2015 through his participation in the band Boy Pablo. [14] Sigmund Vestrheim had a history of advocating for anti-racism and the LGBTQIA+ community. [15]
