The eighth season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on February 23, 2015 on NBC. [1] Carson Daly returned as host. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Pharrell Williams returned as coaches. Gwen Stefani did not return for season eight, making room for the return of Christina Aguilera after a two-season absence.

Reality television genre of television programming that documents unscripted situations and actual occurrences

Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unknown individuals rather than professional actors. Reality television came to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the global successes of the series Survivor, Idols, and Big Brother, all of which became global franchises. Reality television shows tend to be interspersed with "confessionals", short interview segments in which cast members reflect on or provide context for the events being depicted on-screen. Competition-based reality shows typically feature gradual elimination of participants, either by a panel of judges or by the viewership of the show.

Talent show event, television or radio program that focuses on the potential audition of singers, dancers, models and the like

A talent show is an event in which participants perform the arts of singing, dancing, lip-syncing, acting, martial arts, playing an instrument, or other activities to showcase skills. Many talent shows are performances rather than contests, but some are actual contests. In the instance of a contest, participants may be motivated to perform for a reward, trophy, or prize of some kind. For example, a high school might not have many students with any interest in performing in front of the student body for the sole purpose of performing alone and may offer different prizes as an incentive for these students to participate in the contest.

The Voice (U.S. TV series) American talent competition series

The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, it has aired fifteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.

Contents

Sawyer Fredericks was announced as the winner of the season, marking Pharrell Williams' first win as a coach. [2]

Sawyer Fredericks American singer

Sawyer Christopher Fredericks is an American singer–songwriter who won the eighth season of The Voice in 2015. Choosing Pharrell Williams as his coach, Fredericks set series iTunes sales records and became the second youngest winner in series history alongside Danielle Bradbery, until Season 14 winner, Brynn Cartelli, won at the age of 15.

Coaches and hosts

Christina Aguilera returned from a two-season hiatus, rejoining Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams. [3] The advisors for this season included Lionel Richie for Team Pharrell, Meghan Trainor for Team Blake, Nick Jonas for Team Christina, and Ellie Goulding for Team Adam. [4] Nate Ruess served as an advisor for all teams during the Knockouts.

Christina Aguilera American singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality

Christina María Aguilera is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality. Her work has earned her five Grammy Awards, one Latin Grammy Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling music artists. In 2009, she ranked at number 58 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Billboard recognized her as the 20th most successful artist of the 2000s, and in 2013, Time included Aguilera on their annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Blake Shelton American country music singer and television personality

Blake Tollison Shelton is an American country singer, songwriter and television personality. In 2001, he made his debut with the single "Austin". The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, "Austin" spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified debut album also produced two more top 20 entries. Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, he was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed in late 2001.

Adam Levine American singer-songwriter

Adam Noah Levine is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He is the lead singer for the pop rock band Maroon 5. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Levine began his musical career in 1994, when he co-founded the band Kara's Flowers, of which he was the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band split up after their only album, The Fourth World, which did not gain popularity. In 2001, the group was reformed – with guitarist James Valentine joining the line-up – and began a new musical chapter, changing their name to Maroon 5. In 2002, the band released their first album, Songs About Jane, which went multi-platinum in the US. Since then, they have released five more albums: It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), Overexposed (2012), V (2014), and Red Pill Blues (2017). As part of Maroon 5, Levine has received three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and a World Music Award.

The first phase of the competition, the Blind Auditions began airing when the season premiered on February 23, 2015. [5] Adam Levine auditioned as a joke in episode three with the song "Tiny Dancer," with all four chairs turning (Pharrell turned Adam's chair). [6] He "chose" Christina.

"Tiny Dancer" is a song by Elton John with lyrics by Bernie Taupin. It appears on John's fourth album, Madman Across the Water, and was released as a single in 1972. In the U.S. it was certified Gold on 19 May 2005, and Platinum on 19 August 2011, and 3x Platinum on 26 April 2018 by the Recording Industry Association of America. In the UK, "Tiny Dancer" has been certified Gold on 17 August 2018 by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales of 400,000 copies, despite never being released as an official single. Back-up vocals are provided by Tony Burrows. The song was popularized after being featured in the 2000 film Almost Famous.

Serbian hard rock band Cactus Jack recorded a version on their live cover album DisCover in 2002. A remixed version is played as the opening theme song in Gran Turismo 3. The Battles

The Battles (from the second half of episode 6 to episode 9) consisted of two 2-hour episodes, one 1-hour and one special episodes each on March 9, 10, 16 and 17, 2015. Season eight's advisors are Ellie Goulding for Team Adam, Lionel Richie for Team Pharrell, Nick Jonas for Team Christina and Meghan Trainor for Team Blake. Continuing with the format introduced in season three, the coaches can steal two losing artists from another coach. Contestants who won their battle or are stolen by another coach will advance to the Knockout rounds.

Ellie Goulding English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist

Elena Jane Goulding is an English singer and songwriter. Her career began when she met record producers Starsmith and Frankmusik, and she was later spotted by Jamie Lillywhite, who later became her manager and A&R. After signing to Polydor Records in July 2009, Goulding released her debut extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding later that year.

Lionel Richie American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and actor

Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. Richie's style of ballads with the Commodores and in his solo career launched him as one of the most successful balladeers of the 1980s.

Nick Jonas American singer

Nicholas Jerry Jonas is an American singer, songwriter and actor. Jonas began acting in theater at the age of seven, and released his debut single in 2002 which caught the attention of Columbia Records where Jonas formed a band with his older brothers, Joe and Kevin, known as the Jonas Brothers. The group released their debut studio album It's About Time through the Columbia label in 2006. After leaving Columbia Records and signing with Hollywood Records, the group released their self-titled second studio album in 2007, which became their breakthrough record. The band became prominent figures on the Disney Channel during this time, gaining a large following through the network and they appeared in the widely successful musical television film Camp Rock (2008) and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010) as well as two of their own series, Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream (2008–2010) and Jonas (2009–2010).

Week 7: Finale (May 18 & 19)

The Top 4 performed on Monday, May 18, 2015, with the final results following on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. This week, the four finalists performed an original song, a duet with the coach, and a solo song. As with previous seasons, there was no iTunes bonus multiplier applied to songs performed in the finale episodes; [17] all iTunes votes received for the six weeks leading to the finale were cumulatively added to online, phone and app finale votes for each finalist. Hawthorne's instant save made her the third of the three finalist who were stolen. Hawthorne was stolen by Williams from Aguilera, Davis was stolen by Levine from Shelton, And Meghan Linsey the runner-up was stolen by Shelton from Williams, The act who beat Linsey was Sawyer Fredricks, who ironically was (the only non stolen finalist) from the same team as her prior to her steal.
