Nedumangad is a town and municipality in Thiruvananthapuram metropolitan area of Thiruvananthapuram district in the Indian state of Kerala, and is the headquarters of Nedumangad tehsil and Nedumangad Revenue Division (RDO). It is a suburb of the extended metropolitan region of Thiruvananthapuram city. It is located around 16 km to the north-east of Thiruvananthapuram city on the Thiruvananthapuram – Shenkottah (State Highway 2). It is an important commercial center in the district. Sabarimala Railway is a proposed 111 kilometres (69 mi) railway line from Angamaly to Erumeli, near Sabarimala that had been sanctioned in the year 1998 by Indian Railways. According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Kerala State and the Ministry of Railways on 27 January 2016, commercially viable railway projects will be identified and handed over to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be fast-tracked on a 51:49 per cent equity basis. SPV has discussed the extension to Punalur. The currently proposed Sabarimala railway is under PMO - Proactive government and timely implementation (Pragati); will be monitored by the Prime Minister's Office. The proposed railway line will be a great relief to the transportation problems faced by Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta districts.Railways have agreed to start the project as soon as Kerala Rail Development Corporation gives the revised estimate for the project.

Peppara Dam is a masonry gravity dam on the Karamana River in Trivandrum District. It is built by the Kerala Water Authority in 1983 has a catchment area of 83 km2 and receives an average rain fall of 481 cm. The 423m long dam unifies all upper tributaries of the Karamana river and water flow to Aruvikkara is regulated to suit the needs of the Trivandrum city. There is also a 3MW hydel power station at Peppara. It is the main drinking water supply to Thiruvananthapuram city and suburban areas. This dam is situated inside the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary.
Aruvikkara Dam is located in Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. This Gravity and Masonry dam was built across the Karamana River and was completed in 1972 is used for irrigation and supplying drinking water to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The Aruvikkara dam project came up in the 1930s and has been supported by the Peppara dam built in 1983. The height of the dam is 14.01 meters and the length is 83.21 meters. The Aruvikkara Dam meets the irrigation needs of Thiruvananthapuram. The reservoir is also one of the water tourism sites in Kerala.
