Cape Girardeau County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri; its eastern border is formed by the Mississippi River. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was 75,674. The county seat is Jackson, the first city in the US to be named in honor of President Andrew Jackson. Officially organized on October 1, 1812, the county is named after Ensign Sieur Jean Baptiste de Girardot, an official of the French colonial years. The "cape" in the county's name is named after a former promontory rock overlooking the Mississippi River; this feature was demolished during railroad construction.

The Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is a state-owned property preserving a mill and covered bridge that pre-date the American Civil War in Burfordville, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. The park was established in 1967 and offers mill tours and picnicking. It is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. It includes the Burfordville Covered Bridge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Cape Girardeau Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. In 2000, the area listed was 1.6 acres (0.65 ha) and included 17 contributing buildings. In a first increase, an 1891 contributing building at 101 North Main Street was added. The building was designed by Jerome B. Legg and Henry Ossenkop in Romanesque style. In a second increase, three contributing buildings dating from 1870 were added. The two increases added .9 acres (0.36 ha) each to the original listed area.

Hanover Lutheran Church is a Lutheran congregation in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, that is a member of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. The congregation's original organization came about in 1846 as a result of the heavy German immigration to Missouri in the 19th century. The church's name, "Hanover", was chosen to reflect the place of origin of the majority of its members, since many of the Germans who had settled northwest of the town of Cape Girardeau had immigrated from Hanover, Germany.

Esquire Theater is a historic movie theater located at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It was built in 1946–1947, and is a two-story, brick building with a colorful Art Deco facade. The building measures approximately 100 feet by 60 feet. It features a projecting marquee with neon tube lights; a streamlined, curving entrance and ticket booth; a projecting proscenium-like arch; and embellishments including enameled and stainless steel, structural pigmented glass, marble and glass blocks.
