West Bengal Council of Ministers

The West Bengal Council of Ministers is the executive wing of Government of West Bengal and headed by Chief Minister of West Bengal, who is the head of government and leader of the state cabinet. The term of every executive wing is for 5 years. The council of ministers are assisted by department secretaries attached to each ministry who are from IAS West Bengal Cadre. The chief executive officer responsible for issuing orders on behalf of government is Chief Secretary to the state government.

Mamata Banerjee is an Indian politician who is serving as the eighth and current chief minister of the Indian state of West Bengal since 20 May 2011, the first woman to hold the office. Having served multiple times as a Union Cabinet Minister, Mamata Banerjee became the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the first time in 2011. Mukul Roy is an Indian politician from West Bengal. He has also served as a Minister of State in the Shipping Ministry and later Ministry of Railways during the second UPA government. Before the creation of Trinamool Congress, he was a member of Indian National Congress. Between 2017 and 2021, Roy left Trinamool Congress to join Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2021, he left BJP and joined TMC.

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) is a registered unrecognized political party, that campaigns for the creation of a separate state Gorkhaland within India, out of districts in the north of West Bengal. The party was launched on 7 October 2007. The faction led by Binay Tamang, which was created out of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in 2017, merged into Gurung's GJM in 2021 after Tamang's resignation, following which he joined Trinamool Congress.

Partha Chatterjee is an Indian politician. He earlier served as the Minister of Commerce and Industries and formerly served as the Education Minister of Government of West Bengal. He represented the Trinamool Congress. He also held the political office of Secretary General of the All India Trinamool Congress. In 2022, he was suspended indefinitely from the party following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.

The Council of Ministers of West Bengal is the collective decision-making body of the Government of West Bengal, composed of the Chief Minister and bagunnava ra, the most senior of the government ministers. The Cabinet is the ultimate decision-making body of the executive within the Westminster system of government in traditional constitutional theory.

The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration is a semi-autonomous council for the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal state in India. The GTA was formed in 2012 to replace the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, which was formed in 1988 and administered the Darjeeling hills for 23 years.

Purnendu Basu is an Indian politician and the former Minister for Agriculture in the Government of West Bengal. He was also an MLA, elected from the Rajarhat Gopalpur constituency in the 2011 and 2016 West Bengal state assembly election. He is currently Chairperson of West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education for Skill Development.

Madan Mitra is an Indian politician, actor from West Bengal. Madan Mitra started his career with party Indian National Congress. He held many positions of Indian Youth Congress, the party's youth wing. In 1998, he joined Trinamool Congress party, founded by his colleague Mamata Banerjee, and his movie debut was in the 2023 Bengali film Oh! Lovely. In 2011, he was elected to the legislative assembly and became a state minister. He was arrested for the Sarada Chit Fund conspiracy case and got bail after 22 months.

The Ministry of Home and Hill Affairs, popularly known as the Home Department, is a West Bengal government department. It is an interior ministry mainly responsible for the administration of the West Bengal National Volunteer Force and Civil-Military Liaison, welfare of military personnel, RIMC admission test, scholarship to RIMC/NDA cadets, World War-II veteran pension, concessions to volunteer-members of Territorial Army, rewards to Gallantry/Distinguished Service Awardees.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of West Bengal is a Bengal government ministry. It is a ministry mainly responsible for maintaining and developing the health care system in the State.

Gautam Sanyal is an Indian career civil servant who currently serves as Principal Secretary to Government of West Bengal, since June 2015. In June 2016, he was re-appointed as Principal Secretary and his tenure co-terminus with that of Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Jagdeep Dhankhar is an Indian politician and lawyer, serving as the 14th and current vice president of India since 2022. He previously served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022. He also served as a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Chandra Shekhar ministry from 1990 to 1991. He was a member of Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991 and later a Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998. He has also been affiliated with multiple political parties in India, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress and Janata Dal.
