Manchester City Council is the local authority for the city of Manchester in Greater Manchester, England. Manchester has had an elected local authority since 1838, which has been reformed several times. Since 1974 the council has been a metropolitan borough council. It provides the majority of local government services in the city. The council has been a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority since 2011.

An election to the County Council of London took place on 6 March 1919. It was the tenth triennial election of the whole Council. The size of the council was increased to 124 councillors and 20 aldermen. The councillors were elected for electoral divisions corresponding to the new parliamentary constituencies that had been created by the Representation of the People Act 1918. There were 60 dual-member constituencies and one four-member constituency. The council was elected by First Past the Post, with each elector having two votes in the dual-member seats.

Elections to Manchester City Council were held on Saturday, 1 November 1919. One third of the councillors seats were up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a three-year term of office. The Conservative Party lost overall control of the council. These were first local elections held in Manchester since the outbreak of the First World War.

Carmarthen Borough Council was a Welsh municipal body created by the 1835 Municipal Corporations Act which, at that time, replaced the ancient borough that had existed since medieval times. The Council consisted of 24 members, eighteen of whom were elected councillors and the remaining six were aldermen. Councillors were elected on a triennial cycle, with a third of councillors retiring each year. Aldermen were elected for a six-year term, normally from within the council membership although retiring aldermen were often re-elected without facing a contest.

Elections to Manchester City Council were held on Thursday, 13 May 1971. Due to boundary changes, which reduced the number of wards by five, all 99 councillors seats were up for election. In all wards, each first-placed candidate was set to serve a three-year term, expiring in 1974, second-placed candidates were set to serve a two-year term, expiring in 1973, and third-placed candidates were to serve a one-year term, expiring in 1972. However, due the replacement of the corporation by the Local Government Act 1972, only one set of these scheduled elections ever took place.

Sir Robert Evan Thomas JP was a British politician and trade unionist who served as Leader of Manchester City Council on three occasions between 1956 and 1973. A member of the Labour Party, he was also leader of Greater Manchester County Council from 1974 to 1977.
