Caused by the death on 29 July 1951 of Alderman William Somerville (Conservative, elected as an alderman by the council on 2 February 1949). [3] [4]

In his place, Councillor Tom Larrad (Labour, St. Mark's, elected 17 January 1933) [5] was elected as an alderman by the council on 5 September 1951. [6]
