The 2024 Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council election was held on 2 May 2024 to elect 21 out of 63 members of the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. [1] The election took place at the same time as the 2024 Greater Manchester mayoral election other local elections across England. [2]
Prior to the election the council was under no overall control, being led by a Liberal Democrat minority administration. The election saw the Liberal Democrats gain two seats from Labour, but they remained one seat short of an overall majority. [3]

Cheadle is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom since 2024 by Tom Morrison of the Liberal Democrats. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, also known as Stockport Council, is the local authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in Greater Manchester, England. It is a metropolitan borough council and provides the majority of local government services in the borough. The council has been a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority since 2011.
Mark James Hunter is a British Liberal Democrat politician and leader of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council who became Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheadle at a 2005 by-election. At the 2015 general election, Hunter lost his seat to Mary Robinson of the Conservative Party. Since 19 May 2022, Hunter has served as the leader of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. As leader he is also a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and is the combined authority's portfolio holder for Children and Young People.
The Metropolitan Borough of Stockport is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in England. It is south-east of central Manchester and south of Tameside. As well as the towns of Stockport, Bredbury and Marple, it includes the outlying villages and suburbs of Hazel Grove, Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Reddish, Woodley and Romiley. In 2022, it had a population of 297,107, making it the fourth-most populous borough of Greater Manchester.

The ward was abolished in boundary changes before the 2023 Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council election and split up, with the largest part of it going to the new ward of Norbury & Woodsmoor. Parts of Great Moor and Little Moor within the ward were moved into the Offerton ward, and a small area into the Hazel Grove ward.
Mary Josephine Robinson is a British Conservative politician. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheadle at the 2015 general election. At the 2024 general election, Robinson lost her seat to Tom Morrison of the Liberal Democrats.
