The 2024 Rochford District Council election took place on 2 May 2024 to elect members of Rochford District Council in Essex, England. [1] This was on the same day as other local elections.
The council was under no overall control prior to the election. The Conservatives were the largest individual party, but the council was being run by a coalition of the Liberal Democrats, Rochford Residents, Green Party and independents, led by John Mason of the Rochford Residents. [2] [3]
Following the election, the council remained under no overall control, but the Liberal Democrats overtook the Conservatives to become the largest party. [4] A new coalition of the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and independents formed after the election. The Liberal Democrat group leader, James Newport, was appointed leader of the council at the subsequent annual council meeting on 21 May 2024. [5]

Rochford is a local government district in Essex, England. It is named after one of its main settlements, Rochford, where the council is based. The largest town in the district is Rayleigh. Other places in the district include Hockley, Ashingdon, Great Wakering, Canewdon and Hullbridge.
Southend East and Rochford is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2005 by Sir James Duddridge, a Conservative.
Southend West and Leigh is a constituency in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. The seat is currently held by Anna Firth who won the 2022 by-election, following the murder of the incumbent MP, David Amess.
An election to Cambridgeshire County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 69 councillors were elected from 60 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. No elections were held in Peterborough, which is a unitary authority outside the area covered by the County Council. The election saw the Conservative Party lose overall control of the council.
An election to Essex County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 75 councillors were elected from 70 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. No elections were held in Thurrock or Southend-on-Sea, which are unitary authorities outside the area covered by the County Council.
The 2022 North Yorkshire Council election took place on 5 May 2022, alongside the other local elections. These were the last elections to North Yorkshire County Council, and the elected councillors would also serve as the first councillors on the North Yorkshire Council, which replaced the existing county council in April 2023.
