Prior to the local elections, four Labour councillors resigned from the party in protest of the party's direction and policy regarding the war in Gaza. [2] The four members subsequently formed the Kirklees Community Independents Group, [3] which still sits on the council and has no seats up for election this year. With this exception, the council makeup is unchanged following the previous year's elections.
