|
The 2023 Tendring District Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect all 48 members of Tendring District Council in Essex, England. [1] [2] This would be on the same day as other local elections across England and parish council elections in the district. [3]
The council was under no overall control prior to the election, being led by Conservative councillor Neil Stock, who had been leader of the council since 2015. He chose not to stand for re-election. [4]
After the election the council remained under no overall control. A coalition of independent councillors, Labour and the Liberal Democrats formed to take control of the council. At the subsequent annual council meeting on 23 May 2023, independent councillor Mark Thompson was appointed leader of the council, Labour group leader Ivan Henderson was made deputy leader of the council, and Liberal Democrat group leader Gary Scott was made chair of the council. By-election triggered by resignation of Labour councillor Ian Lennard. [14]
Tendring District is a local government district in north-east Essex, England. Its council is based in Clacton-on-Sea, the largest town. Other towns are Brightlingsea, Harwich, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze.
Giles Francis Watling is a British Conservative politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Clacton from 2017 until 2024. He was an actor prior to entering politics, mainly active on television.
Clacton is a constituency in Essex represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2024 by Nigel Farage of Reform UK. It is centred on the seaside town of Clacton, hence its name.
An election to Essex County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 75 councillors were elected from 70 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. No elections were held in Thurrock or Southend-on-Sea, which are unitary authorities outside the area covered by the County Council.
Tendring First is a local political party operating throughout Tendring, Essex, England. They field candidates for Tendring District Council, Frinton and Walton Town Council and Essex County Council. They currently have one district councillor on Tendring District Council and have control of Frinton & Walton Town Council with eight councillors. They had one county councillor on Essex County Council between 2013 and 2016. They have not stood a candidate in a parliamentary election since 2010.
On 9 October 2014, a by-election was held for the UK parliamentary constituency of Clacton in Essex, England.
