The 2023 Castle Point Borough Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of Castle Point Borough Council in Essex, England. [1] This was on the same day as other local elections across England.
The coalition between The People's Independent Party and the Canvey Island Independent Party substantially increased their majority on the council at the expense of the Conservatives. [2] [3]
In the aftermath of the election the Conservative group leader, Godfrey Isaacs, left the group to sit as an independent councillor. He was replaced as group leader by Beverley Egan. Dave Blackwell, leader of the Canvey Island Independent Party, continued to serve as leader of the council after the election. [4]

Castle Point is a local government district with borough status in south Essex, England, lying 30 miles (48 km) east of central London. The borough comprises an area on the mainland and the adjoining Canvey Island in the Thames Estuary, which is connected to the mainland by bridges. The council is based in Thundersley. The borough's other main settlements are Canvey Island, Hadleigh and South Benfleet.
The British Democratic Party (BDP), commonly known as the British Democrats, is a British far-right political party. It was registered with the Electoral Commission in 2011, and officially launched in 2013 at a Leicestershire village hall by a ten-member steering committee which included former members of several political parties including the British National Party (BNP), Democratic Nationalists, Freedom Party and UK Independence Party (UKIP). It currently has three parish councillors, making it the largest far-right party in the UK in terms of electoral representation
