The 2023 Southampton City Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of Southampton City Council in Hampshire, England. This was on the same day as other local elections. Due to ward boundary changes all seats on the council were to be contested in this election, but due to the death of one of the candidates, the election for Coxford ward was postponed. [1]
Labour substantially increased its majority on the council, whilst the Conservatives lost over half their seats. The Liberal Democrats and Green Party also made gains. [2] [3]

The 2014 Southampton City Council election took place on Thursday 22 May 2014 to elect members of Southampton City Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election, and an additional vacancy in Millbrook ward caused by the resignation of a sitting councillor who had been elected in 2012 was also filled, meaning a total of 17 of the city's 48 seats were elected. The elections took place on the same day as the elections to the European Parliament.
The 2014 Barnet Borough Council election took place on 22 May 2014 to elect members of Barnet Council in England. It took place on the same day as other local elections and it resulted in the Conservative Party holding on to overall control of the council.
The 2015 Cheshire West and Chester Council election took place on 7 May 2015, electing members of Cheshire West and Chester Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections across the country as well as the general election.
The 2017 Cornwall Council election was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. 122 councillors were elected from the 121 electoral divisions of Cornwall Council, which returned either one or two councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. Although originally scheduled to take place on the same day, the election in the Bodmin St Petroc ward was countermanded following the death of Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Rogerson and was held on 8 June.
The 2018 Oldham Council election took place on 3 May 2018 to elect members of Oldham Council in England. The election took place on the same day as other local elections in England. The election saw the majority Labour Party increase its number of seats by two. The Conservative Party also gained two seats, while the Liberal Democrats lost one seat. UKIP ceased to have representation on the council following this election. The election left Labour with 47 seats, the Liberal Democrats 8 and the Conservatives 4 with the remaining seat being held by an Independent.
Elections to Southampton City Council took place on Thursday 3 May 2018, alongside nationwide local elections, alongside other local elections across the country. The elections saw no changes in the overall composition of the council, however saw seats being exchanged. The Labour Party lost Bitterne, Millbrook and Peartree to the Conservative party while the Conservatives lost Freemantle, Portswood and Swaythling to Labour. This led to the Labour leader of the council, Simon Letts, and the leader of the Conservative group in the city, Jeremy Moulton, losing their seats.
Elections to Southampton City Council took place on Thursday 2 May 2019, alongside other local elections across the country. The Labour Party held a narrow majority of two at the last election and the seats contested in this election were last contested in 2015. Labour were defending 6 seats, the Conservatives were defending 8, whilst independent councillors, who held two seats, were not standing re-elections. Following a by-election in the Coxford ward where Labour gained the seat formerly held by an independent.
The 2022 North Yorkshire Council election took place on 5 May 2022, alongside the other local elections. These were the last elections to North Yorkshire County Council, and the elected councillors would also serve as the first councillors on the North Yorkshire Council, which replaced the existing county council in April 2023.
The 2021 Southampton City Council election took place in on 6 May 2021, on the same day as other local elections, to elect members of Southampton City Council. The election was originally due to take place in May 2020, to elect to the seats of councillors last elected in 2016, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2023 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday, 4 May 2023 in England and on Thursday 18 May 2023 in Northern Ireland. These included district councils, unitary authorities, and directly elected mayors in England, and included all local councils in Northern Ireland. Notably, these elections were the first to be held under the Elections Act 2022, a new voter identification law that is controversial, meaning voters were required to show photo ID when attending a polling station.
