Elections to Trafford Council were held on 3 May 1984. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 1988. The Conservative Party retained overall control of the council. [1]
Due to the death of one of the candidates for Timperley ward after the close of nominations, the election for Timperley was postponed until 28 June 1984. The result shown on this page is the result of that election.

Trafford is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester, England, with an estimated population of 236,301 in 2022. It covers 106 square kilometres (41 sq mi) and includes the area of Old Trafford and the towns of Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Partington and Sale. The borough was formed in 1974 as a merger of six former districts and part of a seventh. The River Mersey flows through the borough, separating North Trafford from South Trafford, and the historic counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. Trafford is the seventh-most populous district in Greater Manchester.
Timperley is a suburban village in the borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Cheshire, it is approximately six miles southwest of central Manchester. The population at the 2011 census was 11,061.
Altrincham and Sale West is a constituency in the House of Commons.
Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council elections are generally held three years out of every four, with a third of the council being elected each time. Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, generally known as Trafford Council, is the local authority for the metropolitan borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. Since the last boundary changes in 2023, 63 councillors have been elected from 21 wards.
Elections to Trafford Council were held on Thursday, 1 May 1980. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 1984. Boundary changes were implemented for these elections, however, these changes were not sufficient for the whole council to be re-elected. The Conservative Party retained overall control of the council.
Ashton upon Mersey is an electoral ward of Trafford covering the northern part of Ashton upon Mersey in Sale, Greater Manchester, including Ashton Village.
Bowdon is an electoral ward of Trafford covering the Bowdon, Dunham Town and Dunham Massey areas of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, and the village of Warburton, Lymm.
Broadheath is an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, covering the Broadheath area of Altrincham, part of Timperley, and a small part of Sale.
Brooklands is an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering the south-east of the town of Sale, including most of the Brooklands, Sale area. It is represented in Westminster by Mike Kane MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East The 2011 Census recorded a population of 10,434.
Davyhulme East is an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering Dumplington, the eastern half of Davyhulme and a small part of Urmston.
Gorse Hill was an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. It covered parts of Stretford, including Gorse Hill, most of Trafford Park and a small part of Old Trafford.
Hale Barns is an electoral ward of Trafford covering the village of Hale Barns and parts of the villages of Hale and Timperley.
Hale Central is an electoral ward of Trafford covering most of the village of Hale and a small part of Altrincham Town Centre.
St. Mary's is an electoral ward of Trafford covering most of the southern half of Ashton upon Mersey in Sale.
Timperley is an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering the western part of Timperley.
Village was an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering the eastern part of the village of Timperley, including the Village Centre, and part of Brooklands.
Sean Brian Anstee is an English Conservative Party politician and businessman. He was formerly the Leader of the Council on Trafford council and between 2008 and 2021 was a Councillor for the Bowdon ward. Anstee is also executive director at Municipal Partners, Chairman of Trafford Housing Trust and a Non-Executive Director of London & Quadrant. He was appointed a CBE in the 2019 New Year Honours list for services to local government.
Timperley Central is an electoral ward of Trafford Council, Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering Timperley. Created in 2023 following changes to the boundaries of the electoral wards, the ward incorporates the former Village and Timperley wards.
