The 1997 Albuquerque mayoral election was held on 7 October 1997 in order to elect the Mayor of Albuquerque. Former Director of the Bureau of Land Management Jim Baca won the election against his foremost opponent and fellow Nonpartisan candidate Vickie S. Perea.

The general election was held on 7 October 1997. Jim Baca was elected by a margin of 3,154 votes against his foremost opponent and fellow Nonpartisan candidate Vickie S. Perea, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The 2017 United States elections were held, in large part, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. This off-year election featured gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as state legislative elections in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and in the Virginia House of Delegates. Numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local elections also occurred. Berry, the incumbent mayor, did not seek reelection. This was the first mayoral election in Albuquerque without an incumbent candidate in twenty years. All candidates ran on the same ballot. No candidate reached 50% of the vote in the initial round held on October 3, and so a runoff election was held November 14 between the top two finishers.
