The 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship was the third season of the annual competition for rally raid events sanctioned by both the FIA and FIM. The Amaury Sport Organization is in the third of a five-year contract to promote the championship. [1] [2]
A major overhaul of the class name terminology took place before the season, with the T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 categories being renamed to the Ultimate, Stock, Challenger, SSV, and Truck categories for 2024. [3]
The calendar for the 2024 season features five rally-raid events. The prestigious Dakar Rally once again hosted the opening event, with the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Desafio Ruta 40, and Rallye du Maroc events returning to the calendar. [4] The Portugal-based BP Ultimate Rally-Raid would be added to the schedule. [5] [6]

Rally raid is a type of off-road motorsport event competed with different types of vehicles. Along with shorter baja rallies, rally raid constitutes cross-country rallying. Both the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) co-organise a common World Rally-Raid Championship featuring the same events and types of vehicles.

The 2022 Dakar Rally was a rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia and the 44th edition of the Dakar Rally organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). The event took place between 1–14 January 2022. This was the third time Saudi Arabia had hosted the event, with support from the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation. The race started in Ha'il and ended in Jeddah, going through canyons and cliffs in the Neom region, passing by the Red Sea coastline, into the stretches of dunes surrounding Riyadh, with a lot more action on sand dunes in the Empty Quarter. The route consisted of one prologue stage and 12 normal stages, with one rest day in Riyadh on 8 January.

Eryk Goczał is a Polish rally driver who currently competes in the World Rally-Raid Championship. Goczał won the Dakar Rally on debut in 2023 the SSV category, making him the youngest driver to win any category in the event.
Rebecca Busi is an Italian rally driver. She is the youngest Italian female competitor to finish the 2022 Dakar Rally. She finished her first year of World Rally-Raid Championship in fourth position in the overall T4 classification.
A baja, or baja rally, is a motorsport event conducted using various types of vehicles. Along with the similar rally raids and marathon rally raids, the three event types are collectively considered as types of cross-country rallies by the international governing body for automobile sport, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).
