The 2025 Mid-American Conference football season will the 80th season for the Mid-American Conference (MAC), as part of the 2025 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Non-conference play will begin on August 28. [1] Conference play will begin on September 13 and conclude with the MAC championship game on December 6 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. [2] Just as it was in 2024, the MAC will not have divisions. The Championship game will feature the two teams with the best conference records. [3] The MAC will see its first change in membership since 2015 with the addition of UMass. [4] This will be Northern Illinois' last season as the are joining the Mountain West Conference in 2026. [5]
Miami and Ohio finished the season with 7-1 conference records and the Battle of the Bricks rivalry happened twice in the same season for the first time with a rematch in the Championship Game. Ohio avenged the regular season loss to Miami, winning 38–3, and won the MAC Championship for the first time since [[1968. [6]
The MAC enters the 2025 season with three head coaching change from 2024.
Ball State head coach Mike Neu was fired on November 16 with two games remaining in the 2024 season. Neu had 40 wins and 63 losses in nine seasons. [7] He won the MAC Championship in 2020 [8] It was his only winning season. Colin Johnson succeeded him as interim head coach. [7] On December 4, Ball State named Butler head coach Mike Uremovich as the new head coach. [9]
Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain announced on November 20 that he would retire at the end of the 2024 season [10] He retired with a 33–36 at the school. On December 9, 2024, Army assistant coach Matt Drinkall was hired as the next head coach. [11]
On December 7, 2024 Ohio head coach Tim Albin resigned after winning the 2024 MAC Football Championship Game to become the head coach at Charlotte [12] Albin exited the team bus on the way back to campus to accept the position. [13] Associate Head Coach Brian Smith was named the interim head coach for the 2024 Cure Bowl. [14] Ohio named him the permanent head coach on December 18. [15]

The MAC Football Championship Game is an annual postseason college football game played to determine the champion of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
The Ball State Cardinals football team is a college football program representing Ball State University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football. Ball State plays its home games at Scheumann Stadium on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. The Cardinals compete in the Mid-American Conference as a member of the West Division. The team is currently led by head coach Mike Uremovich, who was hired on December 4, 2024.
The Ohio Bobcats football team is a major intercollegiate varsity sports program of Ohio University. The team represents the university as the senior member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), playing at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. The Bobcats have played their home games in Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio since 1929.
Brady Patrick Hoke is a former American football coach. He was most well known for serving as the head football coach at the University of Michigan from 2011 to 2014. He also served as the head football coach at Ball State (2003–2008) and San Diego State
Lyle Allen "Butch" Jones Jr. is an American football coach who is currently the head coach at Arkansas State University. Jones previously served as a special assistant to the head coach and offensive analyst at the University of Alabama from 2018 to 2020, the head coach at the University of Tennessee from 2013 to 2017, the University of Cincinnati from 2010 to 2012 and Central Michigan University from 2007 to 2009. A Michigan native, he played college football at Ferris State University as a running back and wide receiver.
James Frank McElwain is a former American football coach. He was the head football coach at Central Michigan University, a position he held from 2019 to 2024. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2024 season and remained at CMU within the athletics department. McElwain served as the head football coach at the University of Florida from 2015 to 2017, and Colorado State University from 2012 to 2014, where he was named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. He was the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama from 2008 to 2011.
The 2011 Mid-American Conference football season is the 66th season for the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The season began on Thursday, September 1, with four games: Bowling Green played at Idaho, Central Michigan hosted South Carolina State, Temple hosted #14 (FCS) Villanova, and Toledo hosted #10 (FCS) New Hampshire. The conference's other nine teams began their respective 2011 seasons of NCAA Division I FBS competition on Saturday, September 3. The first in-conference game was September 10, with Temple hosting Akron.

The season began on September 1 and concluded with its conference championship game on Saturday, December 3 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Ohio won the East Division with a conference record of 7–1 and Toledo won the West Division with a 5–3 conference record. Toledo won the championship over Ohio by a final score of 17–7.

Non-conference play began with one game on August 26. Conference play began on September 23 and concluded with the MAC championship game on Saturday, December 2 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Miami won the East division with a 7-1 conference record with their only loss coming against Toledo. Toledo won the West with a perfect conference record. Their quarterback Dequan Finn won Player of the Year and coach Jason Candle won coach of the year. On October 21, during the regular season game between the division winners, Miami quarterback Brett Gabbert suffered a season ending leg injury. In spite of that, Miami won their first MAC Championship since 2019 with a 23–14 upset victory in the MAC Championship Game.

The 2024–25 Mid-American Conference women's basketball season will be the season for Mid-American Conference women's basketball teams. It will begin with practices in October 2024, followed by the start of the 2024–25 NCAA Division I women's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2025 and will conclude in March 2025. The 2025 MAC tournament will be held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio for the 25th consecutive season. This will be the conference's last season with 12 members as it will see its first change in membership since 2005 with the addition of UMass.
