The 2nd IIFA Utsavam ceremony honouring the winners and nominees of the best of South Indian cinema in 2016 was an event held on 28 and 29 March 2017 at the Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The event, which is the second edition of the IIFA Utsavam, recognises the best work from the four industries during the year 2016 and awarded prizes to performers and technicians from the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.

Kannada cinema

The nominations for the films released during 2016 were announced early March 2017. Kirik Party lead the nominations list with 12 categories out of total 13 categories. Whereas Karvva and Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu bagged 9 nominations followed by U Turn with 6 nominations. [1]

Malayalam cinema

The nominations for the films released since October 2015 till the end of 2016 were announced on 14 March 2017. Maheshinte Prathikaaram topped the list of nominations in all 13 categories followed by Charlie with 11 nominations and Aadupuliyattam with 7 nominations. [2]

Tamil cinema

The nominations for the films released during 2016 were announced early March 2017. Chennai 600028 II lead the nominations list with 11 categories out of total 13 categories. Whereas Kabali finds spot in 8 categories, followed by critically acclaimed Visaranai and Irudhi Suttru in 5 categories, while Theri received 4 nominations. [3]

Ceremony information

The event is being chiefly hosted by Rana Daggubati, who along with Nani, Akul Balaji and Meghana Gaonkar host for Telugu and Kannada Awards. Rana Daggubati along with Tini Tom, Pearle Maaney and Shiva host for Tamil and Malayalam Awards. [8]

<i>Irudhi Suttru</i> 2016 film by Sudha Kongara

Irudhi Suttru is a 2016 Indian sports drama film written and directed by Sudha Kongara. Filmed simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi, with the latter being titled as Saala Khadoos, the film stars R. Madhavan as boxing coach who is ignored by the boxing association, tries to accomplish his dream by training an amateur boxer, Madhi, played by Ritika Singh in her acting debut. Both the Tamil and Hindi versions are produced by S. Sashikanth for YNOT Studios and UTV Motion Pictures, while C. V. Kumar's Thirukumaran Entertainment and Dream Factory distributed the Tamil version and the Hindi version was jointly distributed by Madhavan himself under the Tricolour Films banner along with Rajkumar Hirani Films.

Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu is a 2016 Indian Kannada drama film written and directed by Hemanth Rao, making his debut, and produced by Pushkara Mallikarjun under Pushkar Films. The film stars Anant Nag and Rakshit Shetty in the lead roles with Achyuth Kumar, Sruthi Hariharan, Vasishta N. Simha and Ravikiran portraying supporting roles. The movie was a commercial success at the box office.

The annual IIFA Utsavam rewards the artistic and technical achievements of the South Indian film industry. The ceremony is organised by Wizcraft International, the team behind the IIFA Awards, and represents Tamil cinema, Telugu cinema, Malayalam cinema and Kannada cinema.

The 1st IIFA Utsavam ceremony honouring the winners and nominees of the best of South Indian cinema in 2015 was an event held on 24 and 25 January 2016 at the Gachibowli Athletic Stadium, Hyderabad. Marking the inaugural event of the IIFA Utsavam, it recognised the best work from the four industries during the period from late 2014 to late 2015 and awarded prizes to performers and technicians from the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.

<i>Pelli Choopulu</i> 2016 film by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam

Pelli Choopulu (transl. Matchmaking) is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Tharun Bhascker and produced by Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni. It features Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in the lead roles. Partly based on a real-life incident of "Spitfire BBQ" food truck, the film revolves around a boy and a girl who meet during match-making and how their aspirations bring them together forms the rest of the story.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ritika Singh</span> Indian actress and former martial artist

Ritika Mohan Singh is an Indian actress and former mixed martial artist who predominantly appears in Tamil films in addition to Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam Language films. After competing for India at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games and then participating in the Super Fight League, she played a leading role in Sudha Kongara Prasad's Tamil film Irudhi Suttru alongside R. Madhavan. She won Special Mention at the 63rd National Film Awards for her performance in the film. She received Filmfare Awards three times for the same role in three languages: Tamil, Hindi and Telugu (Guru). She has won one National Award, one SIIMA award, and three Filmfare Award respectively.

Shraddha Rama Srinath known Professionally as Shraddha Srinath is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films. She debuted with the Malayalam film Kohinoor and gained wide acclaim for her role in the Kannada psychological thriller U Turn (2016) for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and also for her performances in Jersey, Urvi, Vikram Vedha, Nerkonda Paarvai and Operation Alamelamma. For the latter, she won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – South award. She won the Zee Cine Awards Telugu for Best Find of the Year - Female in 2020 for her role in Jersey.

<i>Kirik Party</i> 2016 Kannada film directed by Rishab Shetty

Kirik Party is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by G. S. Guptha and Rakshit Shetty. It stars Rakshit Shetty, Rashmika Mandanna, Samyuktha Hegde, and Achyuth Kumar while Aravinnd Iyer, Dhananjay Ranjan, Chandan Achar and Pramod Shetty play prominent roles. Rakshit Shetty wrote the story and also co-wrote the script along with a team The Seven odds.

The 6th South Indian International Movie Awards is an awards event held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Abu Dhabi on 30 June and 1 July 2017. SIIMA 2017 will recognize the best films and performances from the past year, along with special honors for lifetime contributions and a few special awards. The nomination list for the main awards was announced in June 2017.
