9th Mizoram Assembly

The 9th Mizoram Legislative Assembly was constituted in January, 2024. It represents the northeastern state of Mizoram, India. [1] Election results were announced on 4 December 2023. The Zoram People's Movement, which was not represented in the 8th Assembly, won a majority of seats. The 9th Assembly marks the first time that more than one woman was elected to represent Mizoram since elections began in 1972. [2]

Mizoram is the only Lok Sabha constituency in the Northeast Indian state of Mizoram, and covers the entire area of the state. The seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Formerly an Indian Police Service officer, he resigned from the security service to the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and was elected as Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Mizoram and President of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee in 1984. He however left the party from which he was elected two years later, for which he was disqualified from the Parliament. He became the first MP in India to be discharged based upon its anti-defection law.

The current legislature was elected in 2023 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, and its term will last until 2028.

The 8th Mizoran Legislative Assembly was constituted in 2018 and held twelve sessions before being succeeded by the 9th assembly in 2024. It represented the northeastern state of Mizoram, India. The Mizo National Front, led by Pu Zoramthanga, won an absolute majority. Pu Lalrinliana Sailo served as Speaker.

Lalrintluanga Sailo is an Indian politician from Mizoram. He is an MLA from Dampa Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes community, in Mamit District. He won the 2023 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, representing the Mizo National Front.
