Alive is the fifth Korean extended play by South Korean boy group Big Bang,released through YG Entertainment on February 29,2012. Musically,it is a dance and electronic record that incorporates elements of hip hop and R&B. BigBang members G-Dragon and T.O.P wrote and produced the lyrics and music for nearly all tracks on the album. Alive spawned three digital singles that were released within the week prior—"Blue","Fantastic Baby",and "Bad Boy",all three of which peaked within the top three positions on the Gaon Digital Chart.
Music critics praised the record's production and composition and was named one of the year's 40 best albums by Fuse. The EP along with its singles won various awards,including at the Gaon Chart Music Awards and World Music Awards. A repackaged version of the extended titled Still Alive was released on June 3,2012,and featured the single "Monster" along with two new additional tracks.
Both versions achieved commercial success in South Korea,with Alive and Still Alive ranking as the 2nd and 6th best-selling albums of 2012 in South Korea;it sold a combined total of over 450,000 copies by 2016. Internationally,Alive marked the first time a Korean-language album entered the Billboard 200 in the United States,and the second time a Korean artist entered the chart after BoA in 2009.
On January 27,2012,the track listing and title of BigBang's upcoming EP,Alive were announced. [1] Teddy Park of YG Entertainment and BigBang member G-Dragon produced the majority of the music for the EP with the help of other producers such as DJ Murf and Peejay. G-Dragon also wrote the majority of the songs on the EP with the help of T.O.P. and Teddy Park.
"Blue" was released on February 22,2012,as the EP's lead single,and thereafter BigBang released previews of other tracks on YouTube every day from February 23–28. [2] They also announced the Alive World Tour in support of the album. [3] [4] The EP and its second single,"Bad Boy",were released simultaneously on February 29,2012. Promotions began with televised performances from the EP on SBS's Inkigayo . "Fantastic Baby" was the third single with its music video released on March 7,2012.
The EP was repackaged as a special edition with additional songs and re-titled as Still Alive. The special edition and its single "Monster" were released June 3,2012. "Blue","Bad Boy","Fantastic Baby",and "Monster" were also re-recorded with Japanese lyrics and included on BigBang's full-length Japanese album, Alive . Other tracks,in their original Korean language form,were also included on the album.
Alive garnered positive reviews from music critics,being hailed as "trendsetting". Fuse named Alive one of the best albums of the year,the only non-English album on the list,writing that the record "blurs the lines between traditional K-pop,dance pop,R&B and just about every other genre",and calling it "one of Big Bang's most well-rounded releases to date." [5] Billboard called the EP and its repackage "objectively one of the group’s best eras",and noted how "each song is iconic in its own way". [6] Chicago Sun-Times noted that Alive included a more mature sound and "more interesting production techniques",and that it displayed BigBang's diversity. [7] The Fader praised Alive for making "the most compelling case yet" for a rising K-pop act in the west. [8] The Borneo Post declared that "Alive is a humble manifesto that declares Big Bang's efforts to grow into Kpop legends who live in the now. They've certainly proven before that they're a cut above the usual" and stated "this album is everywhere,and everyone-friendly." [9]
Alive became the first Korean album or EP to chart on the United States' Billboard 200 and at its time of release,held the record for being the best selling K-pop album ever in the United States,selling over 4,100 copies in its first week of release. [10] [11] It also charted at number four on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, [12] at number twenty-two on the Independent Albums chart, [13] and number four on the World Albums chart. [14] On March 9,2012,it was revealed that BigBang was the first act to occupy 5 out of the top 10 spots on Billboard's K-pop Hot 100 with "Blue","Bad Boy","Fantastic Baby","Ain't No Fun",and "Love Dust". [15]
Alive reached number six on Japan's domestic Oricon weekly album chart as a Korean import. [16] In South Korea,both Alive and Still Alive debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. [17] [18] The EP finished 2012 as the second best-selling album of the year in South Korea,while the repackage was the sixth. [19] In Taiwan,the EP reached the number-one spot on G-Music chart [20] and managed to be certified double platinum. [21]
In December 2019,Billboard ranked Alive number 22 on their list of The 25 Greatest K-Pop Albums of the 2010s;Caitlin Kelley praised the record's musical craftsmanship and wrote that it represented "the moment when Big Bang crossed the threshold from above-average hitmakers to full-fledged icons." BigBang is a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment. The group consists of three members: G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung. Originally a five-piece band, Seungri retired from the entertainment industry in March 2019 and T.O.P left in May 2023. Dubbed the "Kings of K-pop", they helped spread the Korean Wave internationally and are considered one of the most influential acts in K-pop. They are known for their trendsetting musical experimentation, self-production, and stage presence.
South Korean boy band Big Bang have released eight studio albums, eight extended plays, two reissues, eight compilation albums, ten live albums, seven single albums, and 36 singles. As of May 2017, the group has sold over 4.3 million physical albums in South Korea and Japan alone.
Dong Young-bae, better known by his stage names Taeyang and SOL, is a South Korean singer. He made his debut in 2006 as a member of the South Korean boy band BigBang. Following the release of several albums and extended plays with his group, Taeyang pursued a solo career in 2008, releasing his first extended play, Hot. The EP was acclaimed by critics and went to win the award for Best R&B & Soul Album at the 6th Korean Music Awards. Hot was followed by his first full-length studio album Solar (2010), which was released in July 2010 and peaked atop the Gaon Album Chart.
One of a Kind is the first extended play of South Korean rapper G-Dragon. It was released on September 15, 2012, digitally, and September 18 physically, through YG Entertainment. The EP consists of seven songs all written or co-written, and co-composed by G-Dragon himself.
"Fantastic Baby" is a song recorded by South Korean boy band Big Bang. It was released as a single for digital download and streaming by YG Entertainment on February 29, 2012, in conjunction with the release of the band's fourth extended play (EP), Alive (2012). Rise is the second studio album by South Korean recording artist Taeyang, member of the boy group Big Bang. It is his first album in four years since Solar in 2010. Rise became the third highest charting K-pop album, and also the highest charting K-pop album by a Korean soloist on the Billboard 200 chart by debuting at number 112, number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart, number one on Heatseekers Albums Chart. The album also debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. A Japanese edition of Rise was packaged as part of Taeyang's Japanese debut album, Rise + Solar & Hot, on August 13, 2014.
M is the fourth single album by South Korean band Big Bang, and the first from their Made Series. It marks the first comeback for them after a three-year absence, which is also their first single album in nine years.
Made is the third Korean-language studio album by South Korean boy band Big Bang. Made was preceded by four single albums containing two singles each, which were released in increments from May to August 2015. After over a year of delays, the full studio album was released on December 13, 2016. It marks the group's comeback after a three-year hiatus and their first full length Korean album since Remember (2008). The production of Made was primarily handled by G-Dragon along with long-time group collaborator Teddy Park. Musically, the album employs hip hop, EDM, pop rock, R&B styles with its lyrics examining expressions of doubt, worry, sexuality, and societal issues.
D is the sixth single album by South Korean band Big Bang, and the third from their Made Series.
"Loser" is a song by South Korean boy band Big Bang. It was released on May 1, 2015, alongside "Bae Bae" as the group's fifth single album M, and as the first single of their third Korean-language studio album Made (2016). The single marked BigBang's first release since Still Alive (2012). Written by G-Dragon, T.O.P, Teddy and produced by Teddy alongside Taeyang, "Loser" has been described as a hip hop and R&B song.
"Bae Bae" is a song recorded by South Korean boy band Big Bang. E is the seventh single album by South Korean band Big Bang, and the fourth and last from their Made Series, before releasing the full album.
"Fxxk It" is a song recorded by South Korean boy band Big Bang. The group's first single in over a year, "Fxxk It" was released alongside "Last Dance" on December 13, 2016, in conjunction with the group's third Korean-language studio album Made through YG Entertainment. It was written by long-time group collaborator Teddy Park with group members G-Dragon and T.O.P, with production handled by the first two contributors along with R. Tee.
"Last Farewell" is a song by South Korean boy band BigBang. It was released through YG Entertainment on November 22, 2007 as the lead single from the quintet's second extended play Hot Issue. The song was written by G-Dragon and composed by the member and Brave Brothers. Mirroring the success of the group's preceding single "Lies," the song went on to become a chart topper.
Let's Talk About Love is the second extended play (EP) by Korean singer Seungri, member of Big Bang, on August 19, 2013 it was released as an EP in South Korea, while on October 9 of the same year a Japanese version was released with 14 tracks.

It was also the group's first Korean-language single since "Sunset Glow" in 2008. Written by members G-Dragon and T.O.P, the song peaked at number one on the Gaon Music Chart, and become one of the best-performing singles of 2011 in their home country.
