The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election of 1983 took place in January 1983 in 294 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, India. The elections were conducted to elect the government in the state of Andhra Pradesh for the next five years. The TDP secured a huge majority winning 202 seats. The Indian National Congress winning only 50 seats.

Telugu Desam Party, abbreviated as TDP, is a regional political party active in the Southern States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The party was founded by N.T. Ramarao on 29 March 1982. Since 1995, the party is headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu, the incumbent Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The party's headquarters is located at NTR Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, was an Indian actor, producer, director, editor and politician who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. He is widely regarded as one of the best actors of Indian cinema. NTR received three National Film Awards for co-producing Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960) under National Art Theater, Madras, and for directing Varakatnam (1970). NTR has received the erstwhile Rashtrapati Awards for his performance(s) in the films Raju Peda (1954) and Lava Kusa (1963). He garnered the Nandi Award for Best Actor for Kodalu Diddina Kapuram in 1970, and the Inaugural Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu in 1972 for Badi Panthulu.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu is an Indian politician who has been Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh since 2014. He is the first chief minister of the state since it was divided. Previously he served as Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh from 1994 to 2004, before the state was divided, and as the Leader of the opposition in the United Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2014. He is currently the National President of Telugu Desam Party.

Thummala Nageswara Rao or Thummala Nageshwar Rao is Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) politician who has at various times been a minister in the Government of Andhra Pradesh and, later, in the Government of Telangana. He is from the Khammam district.
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election of 2009 took place in April 2009, concurrently with the Indian general election, 2009. The elections were held in the state in the first phase (2009-04-16) and second phase (2009-04-23). The results were declared on 2009-05-16. The incumbent Indian National Congress retained power in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly lower house, though with a reduced majority. The Congress Legislature party re-elected incumbent Chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as its leader thus re-nominating him to the post. Thus, becoming the first politician to serve as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in successive terms.

The Assembly of Andhra Pradesh creates laws regarding the conduct of local body elections unilaterally while any changes by the state legislature to the conduct of state level elections need to be approved by the Parliament of India. In addition, the state legislature may be dismissed by the Parliament according to Article 356 of the Indian Constitution and President's rule may be imposed.
The Indian general election, 1951 was the first democratic national election held in India after Independence, and the polls in Tamil Nadu were held for 62 seats. This state had the second largest number of seats, after Uttar Pradesh, because part of current Andhra Pradesh was part of the state of Madras. The result was a victory for Indian National Congress winning 35 out of the 75 seats. While the remaining seats were won by left and independent parties, opposed to Congress.

The Indian National Congress won only 26 seats. NTR was sworn his 3rd term as Chief Minister of the state.
In the 2004 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election, the Congress had swept the state, winning 185 of the 294 seats in the Assembly. The Congress' pre-poll alliance partners Left Front and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also did well winning 15 and 26 seats respectively, taking the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) tally to 226.[3] As the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was invited to form the Government by Governor S.S. Barnala.[4] Expectedly, the Government lasted the full term of 5 years and the tenure of the Legislative Assembly was due to expire on 30 May 2009. The Election Commission of India (ECI) decided to hold the Assembly elections along with the general election. The election in each Assembly constituency (AC) was held in the same phase as the election to the corresponding Parliamentary constituency that the AC falls under.
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, 2014 took place on 30 April and 7 May 2014 to elect members to the legislatures of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It was held concurrently with the Indian general election. The results were declared on 16 May 2014. The Telugu Desam Party led by N. Chandrababu Naidu won a majority of the 175 seats in the rump Andhra Pradesh, while Telangana Rashtra Samithi led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao won in the new state of Telangana.
Assembly Elections are due to be held in Andhra Pradesh in April or May 2019 to constitute the fifteenth Legislative Assembly. These elections are to be held con-currently with the Indian general election, 2019. The incumbent Telugu Desam Party chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the YSR Congress Party Chief Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and the Jana Sena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan are the main opponents.
