The Hughes Mound Site, (3SA11), is an archeological site in Saline County, Arkansas near Benton. The 4.5-acre (1.8 ha) is an important Caddoan Mississippian culture village center, at the northeastern frontier of that civilization. It is the only known platform mound site south of Benton on the Saline River. The site has not been dated, but artifacts found there are consistent with the Caddoan period; no contact-period artifacts have been found.
The Keller Site is a prehistoric ceremonial center located on a former plantation property in Calhoun County, Arkansas. It consists of a group of burial mounds that were apparently first established by the Coles Creek culture, and the area also saw use in the Caddoan period, c. 1200AD. The site was partially excavated in 1909 by Clarence B. Moore. The site, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, is primarily notable because it is relatively undisturbed, providing the potential for further fruitful research.
The McCollum-Chidester House is a historic house at 926 Washington Street NW in Camden, Arkansas. It is now a museum operated by the Ouachita County Historical Society, along with the Leake-Ingham Building at the rear of the property. The 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1847 by Peter McCollum and sold ten years later to Colonel John T. Chidester. It is one of the finest pre-Civil War Greek Revival mansions in the state. Chidester was a prominent businessman who controversially sought to do business with Union interests during the Civil War. After the war he established a mail company that operated so-called "Star routes" as far west as the Arizona Territory. He was not implicated in bribery scandals that attended this operation.
The Buffalo River Bridge was a historic bridge, carrying Arkansas Highway 7 across the Buffalo River in northeastern Newton County, Arkansas. It was located in the Buffalo National River, managed by the National Park Service. It was an unusual Pennsylvania through truss, with a center span of 160 feet (49 m) and a total structure length of 375 feet (114 m). The central truss was flanked at the ends by eight-panel Warren trusses. The bridge was built in 1931 by a Kansas contractor under contract to the state highway department. At the time of its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, it was one of four known Pennsylvania through trusses in the state. It was delisted in 2022 following demolition that began in 2021.
The Newton County Courthouse is located at Courthouse Square in the center of Jasper, the county seat of Newton County, Arkansas. It is a two-story masonry structure, constructed out of concrete and limestone, with restrained Art Deco styling. The building has an H shape, with a center section joining flanking projecting wings. The entrance is at the center, with "Newton County" inscribed in a panel above it, with stylized Art Deco elements. It was built in 1939 with funding from the Works Progress Administration. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
