A parkway is a broad, landscaped highway thoroughfare. The term is particularly used for a roadway in a park or connecting to a park from which trucks and other heavy vehicles are excluded. Many parkways originally intended for scenic, recreational driving have evolved into major urban and commuter routes.

Canada's climate varies widely across its vast area, ranging from arctic weather in the north, to hot summers in the southern regions, with four distinct seasons.

The parkway begins at Highway 417 and proceeds north, passing beside Ken Steele Park and Ottawa's only French college, La Cité collégiale. It continues north, passing beside the national headquarters of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, crossing Montreal Road, passing beside the Montfort Hospital, and ending at the Canadian Aviation Museum.

Montfort Hospital, commonly shortened to Montfort in both languages, is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa. It delivers short-term primary and secondary health care in French and English. The hospital serves over 1.2 million residents of Eastern Ontario. Montfort is the only hospital in Ottawa administered in French and the only Francophone academic health care institution west of the province of Quebec.

The parkway is bordered on either side by significant woods and fields that are the property of the National Capital Commission. Being a federal roadway, the Aviation Parkway is patrolled by the RCMP instead of the local police force.

Wellington Street (Ottawa)

Wellington Street is a major street in Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada. The street is notable for being the main street of the Parliamentary Precinct of the Parliament of Canada. It is one of the first two streets laid out in Bytown in 1826. The street runs from Booth Street to the Rideau Canal where it connects with Rideau Street and delimits the northern border of the downtown core. It is named after the Duke of Wellington, in recognition of his role in the creation of the Rideau Canal, and therefore of Ottawa.

It then continues 8 km (5.0 mi) south and west to Hog's Back Road, winding through several residential areas and going past Dow's Lake and Carleton University. To the north, the road passes Department of National Defence Headquarters, the Ottawa Congress Centre and the Westin Hotel before ending at Wellington Street and Rideau Street. The rear door of the Government Conference Centre can be accessed from the street as well, after it passes under the Mackenzie King Bridge. It is named for Lieutenant-Colonel John By, who built the Rideau Canal. The winding two-lane road has a speed limit of 60 km/h (37 mph).
