Blackmount is a rural community in the Southland District and Southland Region of New Zealand.

The area is roughly halfway between Tuatapere and Manapouri. [1] It is part of Southland District Council's Waiau Aparima Ward. [2]

Education

Blackmount School was a state contributing primary school for years 1 to 8 which operated between 1901 and 2014. [1] [3]

Te Anau lies at the southern end of the Milford Road, 117 kilometres to the south of Milford Sound.

ILT Stadium Southland is a multi-purpose venue located in Surrey Park, Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand. It was originally the home venue of the Southern Sting netball team. It currently serves as the main home venue of both the Southern Steel netball team and Southland Sharks of New Zealand's National Basketball League. It has also occasionally served a home venue for both the New Zealand national netball team and for New Zealand Breakers of Australia's National Basketball League. The venue is owned by Southland Indoor Leisure Centre Charitable Trust and the Invercargill Licensing Trust has the naming rights. Stadium Southland was originally opened in 2000. Following a roof collapse in 2010, it was redeveloped in 2014. The SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, which was opened in 2006, is adjacent to the main stadium complex. As well as hosting netball and basketball matches and tournaments, Stadium Southland has also hosted music concerts and tennis, badminton, boxing and wrestling events.

Drummond is a small town in Southland, New Zealand. It is 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Invercargill and 18 kilometres (11 mi) west of Winton.

Tokanui is a community in the eastern portion of Southland District Council, located on the Southern Scenic Route about 56 km (35 mi) east of Invercargill and 107 km (66 mi) southwest of Balclutha, New Zealand. The Tokanui River runs just to the north of the village and occasionally floods the lower parts, as it did when the railway yard flooded in 1935.

Southland is New Zealand's southernmost region. It consists of the southwestern portion of the South Island and includes Stewart Island. Southland is bordered by the culturally similar Otago Region to the north and east, and the West Coast Region in the extreme northwest. The region covers over 3.1 million hectares and spans 3,613 km of coastline. As of June 2023, Southland has a population of 103,900, making it the eleventh-most-populous New Zealand region, and the second-most sparsely populated. Approximately half of the region's population lives in Invercargill, Southland's only city.

Garston is a small settlement in northern Southland, in the South Island of New Zealand, located close to the region's boundary with Otago. It is the most inland settlement in New Zealand. It is situated south of Lake Wakatipu and close to the upper reaches of the Mataura River, between Kingston and Lumsden. Garston is connected to both Kingston and Lumsden by SH 6.

The Southern District Health Board was a district health board which provided healthcare to an area covering the southern half of the South Island of New Zealand. In July 2022, the Southern DHB was dissolved as part of a nationwide overhaul of the district health board system. Its former functions and responsibilities were taken over by Te Whatu Ora.
