The Northeast Frontier Railway is one of the 19 railway zones of the Indian Railways. It is headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati in the state of Assam, and responsible for operation and expansion of rail network all across Northeastern states and some districts of eastern Bihar and northern West Bengal.

Lumding Junction railway station serves the Indian city of Lumding in Assam. It is the divisional headquarter of Lumding railway division of NFR. It is located in Hojai district. It is the 2nd biggest railway station of Lumding railway division, after Guwahati. It is one of the oldest railway station in India built under Assam Bengal Railway. It consists of 5 platforms with a total of 68 halting trains & 3 originating trains. The station consists of double diesel line.

Silchar railway station is a railway station situated at Tarapur, Silchar in Assam. The railway station falls under the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways. The railway gauge functioned here is broad gauge. The station consists of single diesel line". It is one of the oldest railway station in India built under Assam Bengal Railway. The station has three platforms with a total of 14 originating trains. It serves Silchar, as well as the whole Barak Valley. Trains operate to different cities of India from Silchar including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kanpur, Patna, Prayagraj, Coimbatore, Vijayawada, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Thiruvananthapuram & Agartala. As of now, 170 stations across India are directly connected to Silchar railway station.

This train is named after Indian rivers Brahmaputra and Barak, both of which are two main rivers of Assam and also they are important for connectivity in Barak & Brahmaputra Valley.
Silchar - Guwahati Express is an Express train belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways that connects the second largest city & largest city of Assam, Silchar and Guwahati. This train is a replacement of previous train, Silchar - Guwahati Passenger Special, for the same route & on the same timings. The train makes its main halt at Badarpur Junction & Lumding Junction for 10 mins and 15 mins respectively & loco/rake reversals also take place at these Stations. The train runs with SGUJ/WDP-4 & NGC/WDM-3A/Twins.
Agartala – Lumding Express was a daily overnight train of Indian Railways. It was the only overnight MG express train from Tripura to Assam, connecting Tripura's capital city Agartala and Lumding. It was the longest overnight MG train journey in this section. The train service is suspended now as the route in which it used to run is now converted to BG from MG. This train was the only option for the passengers of Tripura and Karimganj, who were willing to travel by train to Lumding. It used to depart from Agartala as 15696 at 16:15 and from Lumding Junction as 15695 at 21:30. The train makes its main halt at Karimganj Junction for 25 mins on both sides & loco/rake reversals also takes place here. The train was hauled by the YDM-4 class of Lumding MG diesel loco shed locomotive. 15696 used to be connected with two locos, one in front and another in the rear for pulling and pushing its way to the height of Barail Range, from Harangajao to Jatinga. It had a length of 12 coaches with both AC & non - AC. The train used to pass through 36 tunnels in Barail Range made during British Era. Now this entire route is converted to Broad Gauge & the route from Ditokcherra to Mahur is totally diverted to another hill.
Silchar- Coimbatore Superfast Express is an Express train of the Indian Railways belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway connecting Silchar in Assam and Coimbatore Junction in Tamil Nadu. It is currently being operated with 12516/12515 train numbers on once in week basis. The train passes through Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The train starts from Silchar at 20:10 on Tuesday and reaches Coimbatore Junction at 12:00 on Friday. During its journey the train travels through major cities like Guwahati, Siliguri, Malda, Kolkata, Kharagpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Erode and Coimbatore. It holds the record of 7th Longest running train of Indian Railways that covers 3492 km. .
