The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance. A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred in preserving the property.

Local laws often regulate the changes that can be made to contributing structures within designated historic districts. The first local ordinances dealing with the alteration of buildings within historic districts was passed in Charleston, South Carolina in 1931.

Baltimore East/South Clifton Park Historic District is a national historic district in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is primarily an urban residential area organized in a gridiron pattern. It comprises approximately 110 whole and partial blocks that formed the historic northeast corner of the City of Baltimore prior to 1888. While rowhouses dominate the urban area, the historic district also contains other property types which contribute to its character including brewing, meat packing, cigar manufacturing, printing, and a tobacco warehouse. The Baltimore Cemetery completes the historic district.

The Cherrydale Historic District is a national historic district located in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington County, Virginia. It contains 948 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, 2 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object in a residential neighborhood in northern Arlington. The area was platted in 1898, with the majority of dwellings constructed in the second quarter of the 20th century. The dwelling styles include a variety of architectural styles, including a number of Colonial Revival and Queen Anne style dwellings. Also located in the district is the separately listed Cherrydale Volunteer Fire House.
Willard Carl Kruger (1910–1984) was an American architect born in Sperry, Texas, who grew up in Raton, New Mexico. He founded W. C. Kruger and Associates, which was an American architectural and engineering firm. The firm designed a number of Los Alamos buildings, as part of the Manhattan Project.
Cape Lookout Village Historic District is a national historic district located near Core Banks, Carteret County, North Carolina. It encompasses 20 contributing buildings 1 contributing site, and 6 contributing structures in Cape Lookout Village. The buildings include notable examples of Queen Anne and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. The district includes two government complexes: the Cape Lookout Lighthouse Station and the Cape Lookout Coast Guard Station. In addition, 14 buildings, a long dock, and the circulation network, as well as the landscape in which these lie, compose the district. The buildings include the Life Saving Station (1888) and Boathouse, the Keeper's Quarters (1907), Luther Guthrie House, Gaskill-Guthrie House, Seifert-Davis House, Baker-Holderness House, the Bryant House, and the Carrie Arendell Davis House.
The St. Joseph Hospital Historic District is a former Catholic hospital campus and nationally recognized historic district located in Ottumwa, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. At the time of its nomination it contained three resources, which included two contributing buildings, and one contributing structure. Previously, the hospital building was included as a contributing property in the Vogel Place Historic District.
Indianapolis Veterans Administration Hospital, also known as Larue D. Carter Memorial Hospital is a historic hospital complex and national historic district located at Indianapolis, Indiana. The district resources were developed between 1930 and 1951 by the Veterans Administration, and encompasses 15 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 2 contributing structures and 5 contributing objects on the hospital campus. The main complex is connected by an enclosed corridor and consists of the main hospital building (1931), kitchen/mess hall/boiler house/attendants' quarters, general medical building (1939), and recreation building (1941). The buildings reflect the Colonial Revival and Classical Revival styles of architecture.
