On November 6, 2018, El Paso County will elect a new member of the Texas House of Representatives, a new county judge and two county commissioners. El Pasoans will also elect five state representatives and four city council members.

El Paso County, Texas County in the United States

El Paso County is the westernmost county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 800,647, making it the sixth-most populous county in the state of Texas. Its seat is the city of El Paso, the sixth-most populous city in Texas and the 19th-most populous city in the United States. The county was created in 1850 and later organized in 1871.

Texas House of Representatives

The Texas House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Texas Legislature. It consists of 150 members who are elected from single-member districts for two-year terms. As of the 2010 Census, each member represents about 167,637 people. There are no term limits, with the most senior member, Tom Craddick, having been elected in 1968.

Contents

The national, state and county elections are partisan, and the city council election is non-partisan (there is no primary election for the city, but if no candidate wins a majority there will be a run-off election). [1] The city and county officials elected will serve four year terms, and the state representatives and Congressperson will serve two year terms.

There are several open races, as the incumbent member of Congress, Beto O'Rourke, a Democrat, is running for the Senate against Ted Cruz, and the incumbent county judge, Veronica Escobar, is running for Congress. Incumbent county commissioners David Stout (Precinct 2), a Democrat, and Andrew Haggerty (Precinct 4), a Republican, are eligible for re-election. The five state representatives (all Democrats), Cesar Blanco, Mary Gonzalez, Joe Moody, Lina Ortega and Joe Pickett, are eligible for re-election.

Beto ORourke American politician

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is an American businessman, musician, and politician of the Democratic Party who represented Texas's 16th congressional district for three terms in the United States House of Representatives.

Ted Cruz United States Senator from Texas

Rafael Edward Cruz is an American politician and attorney serving as the junior United States Senator for Texas since 2013. He was the runner-up for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election.

César Blanco is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives and a veteran of the United States Navy. He has represented District 76 since 2015.

City council districts 1, 5, 6, and 8 will have elections in 2018. Michiel Noe, District 5 incumbent, is term limited and cannot run again. District 1 incumbent, Peter Svarzbein, District 6 incumbent, Claudia Ordaz, and Cissy Lizarraga, District 8 incumbent, are eligible for re-election. [2]

John F. Cook is an American businessman, veteran, civic leader, and member of the Paso Del Norte Group. Cook was Mayor of El Paso, Texas since defeating incumbent Joe Wardy in June 2005, and was reelected in 2009 to a second four-year term. Due to the City Charter's term limits clause Cook was not eligible for a third term in 2013.

Leeser had a cancer-related surgery in 2016, but stated that his decision was not because of his health. Instead, it was because he "ran to do things I thought were really important for our community and I did that."

2019 Chicago mayoral election
