The 2018 Iowa gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018. Incumbent Republican Governor Kim Reynolds ran for election to a full term. Businessman Fred Hubbell was the Democratic candidate. Primary elections were held on June 5, 2018. Business consultant Jake Porter won the Libertarian nomination in the party's first ever Iowa primary election. Independent candidate Gary Siegwarth also ran on a progressive platform.

Kimberly Kay Reynolds is an American politician serving as the 43rd Governor of Iowa since 2017. A member of the Republican Party, she is the first female Governor of Iowa. Reynolds previously served as the 46th Lieutenant Governor of Iowa from 2011 to 2017. Before she was elected Lieutenant Governor, Reynolds served as Clarke County Treasurer for four terms and then served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2011.
Frederick Shelton Hubbell is an American attorney, businessman and politician. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Iowa in the 2018 election. Before running for office, Hubbell served as Chairman of the Younkers retail department stores in the 1980s and President of Equitable of Iowa. He served as Acting Director of the Department of Economic Development of Iowa and as Chair of the Iowa Power Fund in the 2000s.
After the 2016 presidential election, President Donald Trump nominated then-Governor Terry Branstad to be the United States Ambassador to China. When Branstad was confirmed by the United States Senate, he resigned as Iowa Governor to assume the ambassadorship on May 24, 2017. Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds then became Governor of Iowa. The mission area of USDA's purpose was to "help to keep America's farmers and ranchers in business as they face the uncertainties of weather and markets..." and that "...deliver[s] commodity, credit, conservation, disaster, and emergency assistance programs that help improve the stability and strength of the agricultural economy." The Under Secretary was traditionally appointed to serve as the President of the Commodity Credit Corporation.

Cathy Glasson is an American nurse, union leader, and former candidate for Governor of Iowa, running in the 2018 Democratic primary. She is President of SEIU Local 199 in Iowa and has received support from the union. Glasson lost the primary to businessman Fred Hubbell, receiving 20.5% of the vote to Hubbell's 55.5%.
Andrea "Andy" McGuire is an American politician. She served as Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) chair; elected in January 2015 for a two-year term by the Party’s State Central Committee.
