Elisa Aaltola (born 6 March 1976) [1] is a Finnish philosopher, specialised in animal philosophy, moral psychology and environmental philosophy. [2]
She was a visiting PhD student at the Institute for Ethics, Environment, and Public Policy at Lancaster University and submitted her doctoral thesis to the University of Turku on Animal Individuality: Moral and Cultural Categorisations.
Her book Eläinten moraalinen arvo (Vastapaino 2004) is considered the first commercially published Finnish monograph dedicated solely to animal ethics. [3] She has published 12 books [4] and around 50 peer-reviewed papers on animal philosophy. [5]
Aaltola is a frequent media commentator on animal issues. [6] She is also active on social media. Her accounts, which focus on animal ethics, have around 45 000 followers combined.
Aaltola is an adjunct professor at the University of Turku and a research fellow at the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (University of Turku). [7]
Aaltola is a vegan. [8] Her brother is Mika Aaltola, the director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs. [9]

Ethical extensionism or moral extensionism is a metaethical or metaphilosophical approach in environmental ethics and animal ethics that extends existing ethical theories and concepts to include entities that are traditionally excluded.
Juha Varto is a Finnish philosopher, considered the most important phenomenologist in Finland, known also for his prolific output on a variety of philosophical themes. Since 1999 he has been professor of research in visual art and education at the Aalto University School of Art and Design, Helsinki. Before that he taught research methodology and acted as director of research in various Finnish universities and polytechnics (1992–1999) and before that taught philosophy at the University of Tampere (1973–1993). During the 1990s Varto produced over 100 programmes for Finnish radio and television, mainly dealing with philosophical questions. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate for theatre and drama by the Theatre Academy Helsinki. Autumn 2016, the president of Aalto University, Tuula Teeri, appointed Varto an Aalto Distinguished Professor in recognition of his significant scientific merits.

Juha Sihvola was a Finnish philosopher and historian. He was a university professor of general history from 2000, and part of The Academy of Finland's Centre of Excellence program upon Philosophical Psychology, Morality and Politics, serving as the Deputy Director of the Centre of Excellence from 2008. In the years 2004–2009, he was the Director of Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies.
