Mathew Pritchard (born 30 March 1973) [2] is a Welsh professional skateboarder, stunt performer, celebrity chef, and triathlon athlete. He is best known as the star and co-creator of MTV UK's Dirty Sanchez . In 2019, he hosted the first BBC vegan cookery show, Dirty Vegan. He authored three cookbooks: Dirty Vegan, Dirty Vegan: Another Bite, and Dirty Vegan: Fast and Easy.

Career

Early career

Pritchard worked for Globe Shoes for six years and later designed his own signature shoe, a Sleep When You're Dead model named after his motto. [3] He began skateboarding at the age of 15. His first sponsor was City Surf skate shop in Cardiff. [4]

Dirty Sanchez and Balls of Steel

Pritchard filmed the skating video Pritchard vs Dainton, in which Pritchard and Lee Dainton skated against, hit, and pranked each other. This formed the basis of Dirty Sanchez ,[ citation needed ] an MTV stunt programme starring Pritchard, Dainton, Michael "Pancho" Locke, and Dan Joyce. [5] This ran from 2003 to 2008,[ citation needed ] and in 2006 the four released Dirty Sanchez: The Movie , in which they traveled around the globe doing stunts and pranks that related to the Seven Deadly Sins. [6] Pritchard was also involved in multiple spin-off series. Dainton and Pritchard hosted MTV's 2007 stunt-based game show Wrecked,[ citation needed ] and Sanchez Get High was a spin-off in which Pritchard and Dainton visited indigenous peoples and took traditional medicines. [5] It aired on MTV in 2008.

Pritchard appeared with Locke as the "Pain Men" in 10 episodes of the Channel 4 game show Balls of Steel , which ran from 2005 to 2008. [7]

Dirty Vegan

Pritchard became vegan in 2015 after watching Cowspiracy . [8] In 2017, he launched a YouTube-based cookery series called Proper Vegan Cookin'. [9] In 2019, he hosted Dirty Vegan, the BBC's first vegan cookery show. [10] He also produced tie-in cookbooks for the series: Dirty Vegan and Dirty Vegan: Another Bite. [11] [12] [13] His third book, titled Dirty Vegan: Fast and Easy, came out on 7 December 2023. [14]

Other works

In 2018, BBC Wales filmed a documentary titled Wild Man to Ironman in which Pritchard performs a 14-day ironman challenge in Wales. [15]

Personal life

On 7 September 2009, Pritchard was attacked with a set of keys in a supermarket in Toftwood, Norfolk, suffering serious stab wounds to his neck and chest. [16] [17] His assailant was jailed for five years in 2010, after being found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. [18]

Mathew has a dog named Lemmy.

Dirty Sanchez is a British stunt and prank TV series featuring a group of three Welshmen and one Englishman harming themselves, and each other, through dangerous stunts, which ran from 2003 until 2007. It was known as Sanchez Boys and Team Sanchez in the U.S. The performers are the Welshmen Mathew Pritchard, Lee Dainton, Michael "Pancho" Locke and the Englishman Dan Joyce and was originally based in Newport, South Wales, but later series of the show took place elsewhere in the United Kingdom and the world. Living on the Veg is a British vegan cookery programme that first aired in 2020 on ITV. It is hosted by the cookery writers and bloggers Henry Firth and Ian Theasby, a duo known as BOSH!. Each episode features a series of recipes cooked by Firth and Theasby, and a guest who talks with the hosts about food and their work. BOSH! is a duo of British vegan chefs from Sheffield consisting of Henry Firth and Ian Theasby. They rose to fame in 2016 with the launch of their YouTube channel, and have gone on to host the ITV1 television programme Living on the Veg and author a number of books. Their eponymous vegan cookbook ranked fifth in the Sunday Times Bestsellers chart in 2018, and is among the top 50 best-selling UK cookbooks of all time.

Gaz Oakley, formerly known as the Avant-Garde Vegan, is a chef and cookbook author from Cardiff, Wales known for vegan food. He was described in the Daily Telegraph as "a star of the meat-free world", whose "recipes have gained the respect of herbivores and carnivores alike".
