The Ancient Emii was an autonomous community in Imo State in south eastern Nigeria having the postal code 460111. It is near the city of Owerri. The ancient Emii town was made up of ten villages; but due to developmental needs and political reasons the ancient town of Emii has now been divided into three autonomous communities: Mbaoma, Ezimba and Emii central community. Mbaoma autonomous community comprises Ubaa (also spelt as Ubah), Umuawuka and Emohe. The people of the ancient Emii which now make up the three respective autonomous communities, are Igbo, and speak the Igbo language of the Owerri dialect. They are "ndi Owere" (Owerri people). The three autonomous communities form part of the Owerri Capital Territory of Imo State. At the end of every year, the cultural festival Okazi Akirioche Festival [1] is celebrated.
Owerri is the capital city of Imo State in Nigeria, set in the heart of Igboland. It is also the state's largest city, followed by Orlu, Okigwe and Ohaji/Egbema. Owerri consists of three Local Government Areas including Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West, it has an estimated population of 1,401,873 as of 2016 and is approximately 100 square kilometres (40 sq mi) in area. Umunoha is a town in southeastern Nigeria near the city of Owerri. It is a typical Igbo town. It is bounded on the north by Eziama Obiato and Afara communities; on the south and southwest by Ogbaku, Azara Obiato and Ejemekwuru communities; and on the south and southeast by Ifakala and Afara communities. It is served by the great east-west road, the Port-Harcourt-Lagos Highway. Umunoha is about thirteen kilometers from Owerri, the Imo State capital. It is a small, compact but thickly populated community with a projected 1997 population of twenty-five thousand people.
Ubakala is a large town in Umuahia South Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia State, Nigeria. It is one of the major ancient clans of Umuahia. A popular market for which it is known is the Apumiri Market. Umuahia South Local Government Area Headquarters is located at Apumiri as well. Ubakala is situated southwards of Umuahia main township. The Ohuhu clan of Umuahia north in Abia State Nigeria Igbo people, also referred to as Ohonhaw, form a unique community of people in Umuahia, Abia state, Nigeria, consisting of several Autonomous Communities including Umukabia, Ohiya, Isingwu, Ofeme, Afugiri, Nkwoegwu, Umuawa, Umudiawa, Akpahia, Umuagu, Amaogugu, Umule-Eke-Okwuru, Umuhu-Okigha, Amaogwugwu called Eziama/ Amaudo in Ohuhu etc. Ohuhu was formerly known as Umuhu-na-Okaiuga, or better-known as Ohu-ahia-na-otu. Until 1949, the Umuopara clan used to be part of Ohuhu before they were carved out politically.
Ihiagwa is a town in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. It is located 12 km (7.5 mi) south of the capital city of Owerri. The township is composed of eight villages: Umuelem, Umuchima, Mboke, Nnkaramochie, Iriamogu, Aku/Umuokwo, Ibuzo and Umuezeawula. Ihiagwa has been divided into two autonomous communities, namely Ihiagwa Ancient Kingdom (Chimelem), comprising two villages: Umuelem and Umuchima;and Dindi-Ihiagwa, comprising the remaining six villages, all divisions done for administrative and developmental reasons. Each autonomous community is a monarchy ruled by an Eze.
The Imo River (Igbo:Imo) is located in southeastern Nigeria and flows 240 kilometres (150 mi) into the Atlantic Ocean. In Akwa Ibom State, the river is known as Imoh River, that is, Inyang Imoh, which translates to River of Wealth. Its estuary is around 40 kilometres (25 mi) wide, and the river has an annual discharge of 4 cubic kilometres (1.0 cu mi) with 26,000 hectares of wetland. The Imo's tributary rivers are the Otamiri and Oramirukwa. The Imo was cleared under the British colonial administration of Nigeria in 1907–1908 and 1911; first to Aba and then to Udo near Umuahia.
Obazu in Imo State is one of the autonomous communities in Mbieri ancient kingdom of Imo state. It is made up of six villages, namely: Umueze, Umuchoke, Umuchimanwiri, Amaogwugwu, Obilubi and Umunkwo in order of seniority. It is located at the eastern part of Mbieri and share boundaries with Umuoba, Orji and Owuala of Uratta people, Amatta and Akabo (Ikeduru) and Ụmụneke, Umunjam, Amaulu, Eziome, Achi, Umuagwu, Ubakuru and Amankuta. The people are mostly Anglican though there are other Christian denomination followers among her people.
Otulu is a town in Oru West local government area of Imo State, Nigeria. It is located along the Owerri-Onitsha Federal Highway in Imo State. Approaching from Owerri to Onitsha one will get to Awo-Omanma, Amiri and then Otulu after which one has Mgbidi; while from Onitsha to Owerri one has Otulu after Mgbidi.
Awo-Omamma, in the bortheast of the Niger Delta basin, is an oil-rich indigenous Igbo town on the banks of Njaba River. It is a potential tourism hub in the region due to its species of wildlife in Umuezukwe and green vegetation.
