Owerri is the capital city of Imo State in Nigeria, set in the heart of Igboland. It is also the state's largest city, followed by Orlu, Okigwe and Ohaji/Egbema. Anara is a town located in Isiala Mbano, Imo State, Nigeria. It is located about 30 km (20 mi) northeast of Owerri, and connected by a historic road. The town is bordered by Amaraku, Eziama, Abba, amongst other communities. It originated as a settlement made up of eight villages, with Aguna being the oldest of them. The population of Anara is approximately 70,000; however, it is developing due to a recent influx of immigrants. The town celebrates many festivities, including Anara Day, the Awa festival, and the New Yam festival.

Ohaji-Egbema is an oil-rich Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. It is headquartered in Mmahu-Egbema. Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area as presently constituted was created by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida's administration in the August 27, 1991 presidential proclamation, created out of the former Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta L.G.A. Ohaji/Egbema comprises three political districts: Ohaji East, Egbema North, and Ohaji West. The Ohaji-Egbema local government has seventeen autonomous communities, namely Egbema, Umuagwo, Oloshi, Umunkwaku, Obile, Obitti, Mgbirichi/Alakuru, Opuoma, Assa, Awarra, Ikwerede, Umuokanne, Obiakpu, Ohaba, Obosima, Mmahu, and Obuomadike.

The postal code of the area is 460. Owerri city sits at the intersection of roads from Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Aba, Orlu, Okigwe and Umuahia. It is also the trade center for palm products, corn [maize], yams and cassava [manioc]. Eke Ukwu Owere market is the main market in Owerri Municipal.

In the East, Okigwe road leads to Orji Community. In the West, MCC road off Wetheral to Obibi Uratta and Ihitaoha communities. In the South, Mbaise road leads to Egbu and Emekuku communities, while Aba road leads to Naze, Agbala and Ulakwo communities.
Owerri West is a Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Umuguma. Owerri West Local Government is administered under the terms of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Elections to the office of the Chairman of the local government are held through nominations by registered political parties as stipulated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under the supervision of Imo State Electoral Commission. Owerri West was carved out of the former Owerri Local Government Area in 1996. A very large portion of the local government constitute the capital city of Imo State, Nigeria.
The Ancient Emii was an autonomous community in Imo State in south eastern Nigeria having the postal code 460111. It is near the city of Owerri. The ancient Emii town was made up of ten villages; but due to developmental needs and political reasons the ancient town of Emii has now been divided into three autonomous communities: Mbaoma, Ezimba and Emii central community. Mbaoma autonomous community comprises Ubaa, Umuawuka and Emohe. The people of the ancient Emii which now make up the three respective autonomous communities, are Igbo, and speak the Igbo language of the Owerri dialect. They are "ndi Owere". The three autonomous communities form part of the Owerri Capital Territory of Imo State. At the end of every year, the cultural festival Okazi Akirioche Festival is celebrated.
Obazu in Imo State is one of the autonomous communities in Mbieri ancient kingdom of Imo state. It is made up of six villages, namely: Umueze, Umuchoke, Umuchimanwiri, Amaogwugwu, Obilubi and Umunkwo in order of seniority. It is located at the eastern part of Mbieri and share boundaries with Umuoba, Orji and Owuala of Uratta people, Amatta and Akabo (Ikeduru) and Ụmụneke, Umunjam, Amaulu, Eziome, Achi, Umuagwu, Ubakuru and Amankuta. The people are mostly Anglican though there are other Christian denomination followers among her people.
