Esports at the SEA Games

Esports was introduced as one of the main medal events in the Southeast Asian Games during the 2019 edition held in the Philippines. [1] Since 2019, Esports has become one of the main events during the biennial event due to the level of competition between opposing teams and the selection of games during the main event. [2]

Notable games include: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang , League of Legends , League of Legends: Wild Rift and PUBG Mobile to name a few. [3]

History

Esports was first introduced in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. The tournament featured six disciplines during the event which including four MOBA disciplines, one Fighting game and one Digital Card Game in Tekken 7 and Hearthstone , respectively. [4]

Esports would carry on to become another medal event for the succeeding 2021 and 2023 editions of the games held in Vietnam and Cambodia, respectively.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup, referred to as MSC, is an annual international tournament for professional esport teams for the MOBA game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang hosted by Moonton in the middle of years, since 2017.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held on December 5 to 8 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila.

The 2021 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup or commonly known as MSC 2021, was the fourth annual regional Southeast Asian Tournament for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MSC 2021 was held virtually via an online livestream that was streamed and viewed by millions in the region. With a total prize pool of $150,000 after Moonton's announcement of a prize pool increase, the games were held from 7–13 June 2021. The Philippine team of Execration won the Tournament against another Philippine team in Blacklist International with Kelra as the winning MVP. This is the second title that the Philippines have won after Aether Main won the MSC Cup in 2018.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship is the annual professional Mobile Legends: Bang Bang world esports championship tournament for the game wherein teams worldwide would be facing off each other to become the world champion for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The yearly tournament is presented by Moonton and has been held four times.

It was during this year that the inaugural Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League was introduced to the Philippines with MDL Philippines Season 1 occurring as the preceding event prior to MPL Philippines Season 11.
