The Essex County Courthouse is located in Newark, New Jersey, United States. It was built in 1904 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 1975, for its significance in art and architecture. [1] [3]
The building, designed by Cass Gilbert, has a four-story rotunda topped with a Tiffany skylight. It features artwork from some of the most well known artists of the American Renaissance period [4] including Seated Lincoln by Gutzon Borglum.
The main facade is adorned with nine sculptures by Piccirilli Brothers.
The annex was completed the 1960s. Jack Murphy of Fava Associates was the lead architect on the annex project. The courthouse complex was further expanded in 2021 to include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Judicial Building.

Eberhardt Hall, originally the Newark Orphan Asylum, is the oldest building at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Built in 1856-57 its original purpose was to serve as a home for Newark's orphans. Eberhardt Hall is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a beautiful example of 19th-century Gothic Victorian architecture, in conjunction with 15th- and 16th-century castle design.
