Harakah is a newspaper founded in 1987 and published by Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). In addition to using the Malay language, the paper includes an 8-page English language pullout consisting of pages and columns written in English called the English Section. A page in Jawi writing was introduced in 2007. Articles from Harakah are also available through its own website, Harakahdaily.net.

Controversy

On 16 June 2003, Harakah insulting Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad by depicting him with a pig-like snout in one of their cartoons. [1] [2] Government MPs protested Harakah for insulting Mahathir. [3] On 18 June, Harakah editor Zulkifli Sulong has apologised over the controversial cartoon published. [4] Mahathir said the Government would not take action against Harakah. [5] [6]

Overview

Harakah's current Managing Director is Khairil Nizam Khirudin. Currently helmed by Wan Nordin Wan Yaakob who was appointed its editor-in-chief in 2015, its former editor-in-chiefs include Zulkifli Sulong, Suhaimi Taib and Ahmad Lutfi Othman. Its internet wing edition, Harakahdaily.net, is headed by Mohd Rashidi Hassan. One of the better known contributors to Harakah was M. G. G. Pillai, who coined the term "Darul Casino". He died in 2006.

During the 52nd PAS Youth Muktamar which was held in November 2012, Nasrudin Hassan of PAS Youth demanded that the editorial line-up of the newspaper should be restructured and wants a committee to be set up to censor the editorial content of the newspaper and its online portal Harakahdaily. PAS Youth claims that the newspaper has lost its credibility and derailed from its own purpose. Nasrudin claims that it no longer carries the aspiration of the jamaah to propel the Islamic movement of the 21st century. [7] PAS later accepted the resolution without debate. [8]

Usop Sontorian is a Malaysian animated cartoon series aired on TV1 from 1996 to 1997. The country's first animated series, it was created by Ujang and produced by Kharisma Pictures. The series was directed by Kamn Ismail, who was also the voice actor for one of the series' characters.

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Haji Abu Hassan bin Omar was a Malaysian politician from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a major component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was the 12th Menteri Besar of Selangor, Malaysia, from 1997 to 2000. Previously he was also the Minister of Social Welfare (1984–1986), Minister of Federal Territories (1986–1987), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1987–1992) and Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (1992–1997). He was also a former Member of Parliament for Kuala Selangor (1978–1997) and Selangor state assemblyman for Permatang (1997–1999) in Selangor.

The National Trust Party is a registered political party in Malaysia advocating a reformist strand of political Islam. The party was founded as the Malaysia Workers' Party before being handed over in August 2015 to Gerakan Harapan Baru, a group of progressive Islamist leaders of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party which lost in the June 2015 party election. This group of Islamists then redefined the Malaysia Workers' Party as an Islamic reformist party on 16 September 2015. The party currently has eight elected Members of Parliament. He is one of the founders of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and former Permanent Chairman of UMNO (1976-2003).

The Malaysian United Indigenous Party, abbreviated BERSATU or PPBM, is a nationalist political party in Malaysia. The party was preceded by the United Indigenous Association of Malaysia. The 2018 Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riot was a rioting incident that took place for two days from 26 to 27 November 2018 at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple site and also the surrounding area at USJ 25, Subang Jaya, Petaling, Selangor. The riot stemmed from a misunderstanding between the temple and the developer, One City Development Sdn. Bhd. in the issue of the transfer of the temple. As a result, the riot incident resulted in damage to public property and the death of a firefighter, Muhammad Adib bin Mohd Kassim. The riots had already received public attention and widespread coverage in the Malaysian mass media.
