Janganotantrik Morcha (People's Democratic Front [1] ) is a political party in the Indian state of Tripura. PDF was formed by Ajoy Biswas, a former member of the Lok Sabha of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). Biswas broke out of CPI(M) against ideological differences [2] with then Chief Minister Nripen Chakraborty.
The PDF-breakaway affected the teachers movement of CPI(M) in the state. Both teachers organizations of CPI(M), Tripura Government Teachers Association (state schools) and Tripura Teachers Association (private schools) were divided. The CPI(M) loyalists were called TGTA (H.G.B. Road) and TTA (H.G.B. Road) whereas the followers of Biswas were called TGTA (Ajoy Biswas) and TTA (Ajoy Biswas).
Biswas later broke with PDF and formed Tripura Ganatantrik Manch.
Janganotantrik Morcha participates in the Confederation of Indian Communists and Democratic Socialists.
The symbol of PDF is a red banner with a hammer and sickle (same as CPI(M)).

Nripen Chakraborty was an Indian Communist politician who served as the Chief minister of Tripura state from 1978 to 1988. Nripen Chakraborty was involved in the Communist movement in India for six decades.

Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022, he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi. Again on 23 June 2022, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on INC ticket defeating his nearest rival of BJP by more than 3500 votes.

Legislative Assembly elections were held in 2016 for 294 seats of the Vidhan Sabha in the Indian state of West Bengal. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was re-elected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days. The first phase was held in Naxalite-Maoist affected red corridor areas with two polling dates: 4 April and 11 April. The other phases were held on 17, 21, 25, 30 April and 5 May. The result of the election was declared on 19 May.

The 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly election was held on 18 February for 59 of the state's 60 constituencies. The counting of votes took place on 3 March 2018. With 43.59% of the vote, the BJP secured a majority of seats (36) and subsequently formed the government with Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister. The former governing Left Front alliance while receiving 44.35% of the vote secured only 16 seats.
