The Johnson Road Covered Bridge is a covered bridge located near Petersburg, Jackson County, Ohio, United States.
It was built around 1870 by Robert W. Smith, using his 1867 patent for the Smith truss design. [2] While most all of the covered bridges built in Jackson County in the 19th century used this design, this one is the only known example still standing in the state, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. [3]
A truss bridge is a bridge whose load-bearing superstructure is composed of a truss, a structure of connected elements, usually forming triangular units. The connected elements, typically straight, may be stressed from tension, compression, or sometimes both in response to dynamic loads. There are several types of truss bridges, including some with simple designs that were among the first bridges designed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. A truss bridge is economical to construct primarily because it uses materials efficiently.
The Bollman Truss Railroad Bridge across the Little Patuxent River at Savage, Maryland, is one of the oldest standing iron railroad bridges in the United States and the sole surviving example of a revolutionary design in the history of American bridge engineering. The 160-foot (48.8 m) double-span was built in 1852 at an unknown location on the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. It was moved 35 years later to its present location, where it replaced the very first Bollman bridge. Today, it carries the Savage Mill Trail.
The Elm Grove Stone Arch Bridge, also known as the Monument Place Bridge, is the oldest extant bridge, built in 1817, in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The bridge carries U.S. Route 40 over Little Wheeling Creek in Elm Grove. The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 1981.
Windsor Mills Bridge, also known as Wiswell Road Bridge or Warner Hollow Road Bridge, is a covered bridge that carries Covered Bridge Lane, formerly Wiswell Road, across Phelps Creek in Windsor Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States. The bridge, one of currently 17 drivable bridges in the county, is a single-span Town truss design. The bridge was built in 1867 using white pine. It sits atop cut stone abutments, one made of sandstone quarried nearby, and the other made of creek stone. The bridge was bypassed in the 1960s and closed to traffic, and Wiswell Road was rerouted west of the creek. In the 1980s, the bridge was completely closed due to safety reasons. It underwent extensive renovation from 2002 to 2004, and was then reopened to all traffic, except for trucks and buses. The bridge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge's WGCB number is 35-04-25, and it is located approximately 5.0 mi (8.0 km) west of Orwell.
Buskirk Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that connects Washington County, New York on the north end to Rensselaer County on the south end and like the connecting roads and the fire station just south of it, is named after the hamlet on Rensselaer side at the junction of New York State Route 67. The bridge, which crosses the Hoosic River is one of 29 historic covered bridges in New York State. The bridge, service roads and hamlet all take their names from the local Van Buskirk family.

The Bell Ford Post Patented Diagonal "Combination Bridge", often simply called the Bell Ford Bridge or Bell Ford Covered Bridge, is a dilapidated covered bridge located in Jackson County, Indiana, northwest of Seymour, Indiana. The bridge originally passed over the East Fork of the White River on a former alignment of State Road 258, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 2005.

It was built in the 1870s and has been designated a historic site because of its well-preserved historic engineering. Since its construction, it has carried Lower Twin Road over Buckskin Creek in Buckskin Township. The bridge is a wooden Smith truss bridge, built in 1873 according to a design patented by Ohioan Robert Smith in the late 1860s. Eight wooden panels wide, it rests on stone abutments and is covered with a metal roof.
The Mull Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Built in the middle of the nineteenth century, it is located near Burgoon in Sandusky County. Although it is no longer used to facilitate transportation, the bridge has been preserved and is now a historic site.
The Church Hill Road Covered Bridge is a covered bridge in Columbiana County, Ohio. It was originally located over Middle Fork Little Beaver Creek in Elk Township. The bridge was constructed in 1870 and was relocated in 1982 behind a now closed restaurant on Ohio State Route 154 in Elkton, Ohio.
Everett S. Sherman (1831-1897) was a covered bridge builder in Ohio. He lived and built bridges in Delaware County then moved to Preble County after a storm destroyed many of its bridges.
The Champion Bridge Company, formerly known as Champion Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company, is a steel fabrication business based in Wilmington, Ohio, in the United States. It has been in business since the 1870s, and several of its works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Eldean Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge spanning the Great Miami River in Miami County, Ohio north of Troy. Built in 1860, it is one of the nation's finest surviving examples of a Long truss, patented in 1830 by engineer Stephen H. Long. At 224 feet (68 m) in length for its two spans, it is the longest surviving example of its type. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016.
Meems Bottom Covered Bridge is in Shenandoah County, Virginia, United States. The bridge, at 204 feet (62 m), is the longest covered bridge in Virginia and one of the last that supports regular traffic. Near the town of Mount Jackson, the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge features a 200-foot single-span wooden Burr arch structure. Built in 1892 by Franklin Hiser Wissler, the wooden bridge over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River provided access to his apple orchards at Strathmore Farms. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1975.
The Hall Covered Bridge, located in southern Rockingham, Vermont, carries Hall Bridge Road across the Saxtons River, just north of its junction with Vermont Route 121. It is a Town lattice truss bridge, built in 1982 as a replica of a circa-1867 bridge that was destroyed by an overweight truck in 1980. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
The historic bridges at the Lancaster campus of Ohio University were moved to the campus and sit about 100 yards (91 m) apart. The bridges were built in 1881 and 1884–85 very close to each other, both crossing Poplar Creek, and while the first-built is a wood-and-steel covered bridge and the second-built is all-steel, they are similar in design.
