Kagaznagar is a town, and a municipality in Komaram Bheem district in the state of Telangana in India. [3]

A municipality is usually a single administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction as granted by national and regional laws to which it is subordinate. It is to be distinguished (usually) from the county, which may encompass rural territory or numerous small communities such as towns, villages and hamlets.

Telangana State in southern India

Telangana is a state in India situated on the centre-south stretch of the Indian peninsula on the high Deccan Plateau. It is the eleventh largest state and the twelfth-most populated state in India with a geographical area of 112,077 km2 (43,273 sq mi) and 35,193,978 residents as per 2011 census. Geography

Sirpur Kagaznagar (SKZR) are twin towns is located at 19°20′00″N79°29′00″E / 19.3333°N 79.4833°E / 19.3333; 79.4833 . [4] It has an average elevation of 174 meters (574 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census, the town of Kagaznagar had a population of 57,583, with 28,649 males, and 28,934 females. The Present population of the twin towns of Sirpur Kagaznagar is approximately around 100,000. There were a total of 5,576 children between the ages of 0 and 6 and 15,712 inhabitants were classified as illiterate. The town has a unique blend of people settled from different parts of India. Apart from Telugu and Hindi, Marathi is also widely understood due to the town's proximity to Maharashtra. Bengali language is widely spoken in Easgoan village owing to settlement of Bengali refugees. The Literacy rate stood at 73.07 percent. [2]

Census Acquiring and recording information about the members of a given population

A census is the procedure of systematically acquiring and recording information about the members of a given population. This term is used mostly in connection with national population and housing censuses; other common censuses include traditional culture, business, supplies, and traffic censuses. The United Nations defines the essential features of population and housing censuses as "individual enumeration, universality within a defined territory, simultaneity and defined periodicity", and recommends that population censuses be taken at least every 10 years. United Nations recommendations also cover census topics to be collected, official definitions, classifications and other useful information to co-ordinate international practices.

The city's predominant religion is Hinduism to which 65.85% of the whole population belongs to. Islam is second, with 30.85%, which follows by Christianity at 1.24%, Sikhism at 0.18% and Buddhism at 1.12%. [5]

Hinduism is an Indian religion and dharma, or way of life, widely practised in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Hinduism has been called the oldest religion in the world, and some practitioners and scholars refer to it as Sanātana Dharma, "the eternal tradition", or the "eternal way", beyond human history. Scholars regard Hinduism as a fusion or synthesis of various Indian cultures and traditions, with diverse roots and no founder. This "Hindu synthesis" started to develop between 500 BCE and 300 CE, after the end of the Vedic period, and flourished in the medieval period, with the decline of Buddhism in India.

Islam is an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion teaching that there is only one God (Allah), and that Muhammad was a messenger of God. It is the world's second-largest religion with over 1.8 billion followers or 24% of the world's population, most commonly known as Muslims. Muslims make up a majority of the population in 50 countries. Islam teaches that God is merciful, all-powerful, and unique, and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures and natural signs. The primary scriptures of Islam are the Quran, claimed to be the verbatim word of God, and the teachings and normative examples of Muhammad.

Christianity is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Its adherents, known as Christians, believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and the savior of all people, whose coming as the Messiah was prophesied in the Hebrew Scriptures of Judaism, called the Old Testament in Christianity, and chronicled in the New Testament. It is the world's largest religion with over 2.4 billion followers.

Government and politics

Civic administration

Kagaznagar Municipality was constituted in 1995 and is classified as a third grade municipality with 31 election wards [6] . The jurisdiction of the civic body is spread over an area of 8.31 km2 (3.21 sq mi). [1]

Economy

The local economy was heavily dependent on manufacturing at Sirpur Paper Mills has been acquired by JK company ownership and has been restarted in August 2018 with production likely to begin from April 2019.Sirsilk textile factory is closed, but Koneru Konappa and Ashok Kumar Singh , the present MLA of the area is claiming that he will reopen it. Presently the entire economy is run by agriculture allied activities. [7]

Sirpur Paper Mills Limited (SPM) is an integrated pulp and paper mill situated at Kaghaznagar in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district, Telangana. Production at the mill has been shut down from September 2014 to August 2018.
