Lacona is a city in Warren County, Iowa, United States. The population was 345 at the time of the 2020 census. [3] It is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area.
Lacona was laid out in 1856. [4] It was incorporated in 1881. [5]

As of the census [8] of 2010, there were 361 people, 152 households, and 102 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,002.8 inhabitants per square mile (387.2/km2). There were 165 housing units at an average density of 458.3 per square mile (177.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.7% White and 0.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.
There were 152 households, of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 1.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.9% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.96.
The median age in the city was 37.6 years. 27.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26% were from 25 to 44; 25.2% were from 45 to 64; and 16.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.0% male and 51.0% female.

Southeast Warren Community School District, which serves the municipality, [10] was formed in 1959 as a consolidation of area schools. [11] It operates SE Warren Elementary in Milo, SE Warren Intermediate in Lacona, and SE Warren Junior-Senior High in Liberty Center. [12]
