The Laos national badminton team represents Laos in international badminton team competitions. [1] [2] It reached the semifinals of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games mixed team event. [3] The Laotian junior boys team were semi-finalists at the 2018 ASEAN School Games. [4] [5]
The team was formed in February 1955 after the formation of the Badminton Lao Federation which was then called Association de Badminton du Royaume de Laos. It then competed in local sport events. It won its first medals in badminton at the 1959 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games when Boonpheng Siaksone and Tiock won bronze in men's doubles. [6]
In 2009, Khamkouy Phontexa and Somsaveng Semsylvong were appointed as coaches for the team. [7] [8]
Laos first competed in the 1965 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games. The team defeated South Vietnam 3–2 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, the team lost 3–2 to Malaya. In the bronze medal match, the team lost 3–2 to Singapore. [9] [10] In 2007, Laos competed at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. The team lost 0–3 to Thailand in 2007. In the 2009 Southeast Games, the team had a bye in a first round and lost 0–3 to Indonesia in the quarter-finals. [11]
The team first competed at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. It had the same fate as the men's team when it lost in the quarter-finals to Thailand. In 2009, it lost 0–3 to Singapore. [12]
The team competed in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. [13] It was given a bye in the quarter-finals and entered the semi-finals where it went head to head against home team Cambodia. It scored the first point when national mixed doubles pair Namboun Luangamath and Thidachane Sypaseuth defeated Cambodia's Yam Samnang and Seavty Teav 22–20, 22–20. In the second match, it failed to win the second point after Manut Phiasoulin lost to Sok Rikreay 21–10, 20–22, 10–21. It lost in the semi-finals after it lost in the women's doubles tiebreaker match. [14] It was awarded bronze. [15]

Chen Long, is a Chinese former professional badminton player. He is the 2016 Olympic champion, two-time World champion, and an Asian champion.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro is an Indonesian former badminton player. He was the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, two-time World Championships medalist and three-time Asian Champion. He reached a career high as world number 3 on 7 October 2004.

Muay Lao is a combat sport from Laos based on ancient Lao martial arts. It incorporates punches, kicks, elbow, and knee strikes. It can be traced back to the 15th century when it was used for military combat during the Lan Xang dynasty. It is similar to Muay Thai from Thailand and Pradal Serey from Cambodia. Muay Lao was an event at the 2009 Southeast Asian Games in Vientiane.
Xing Aiying is a Chinese-born Singaporean former badminton player who competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Fitriani is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in women's singles and women's doubles discipline affiliated with Exist club. She won team silver at the 2019 SEA Games and bronze medals at the 2017 SEA Games and 2018 Asian Games. She was crowned as the women's singles champions at the 2023 Indonesian national championships.
Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Cahyaningsih is an Indonesian badminton player in women's singles. She started her career at the badminton club PB Mutiara Cardinal in Bandung, West Java, and was called to the national team in 2013. She was the girls' singles champion at the 2017 World Junior Championships. Tunjung also captained the Indonesia women's team at the 2022 Asia Team Championships, where they emerged champions.
Yeo Jia Min is a Singaporean badminton player. She is a former World Junior No.1 and the first Singaporean in either the junior or senior categories to made it to the top of the BWF's ranking system.
Aaron Chia Teng Fong is a Malaysian badminton player. A world champion and a double bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, he and his partner Soh Wooi Yik became the first ever world badminton champions from Malaysia after winning the men's doubles title at the 2022 World Championships. Together, they also won a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games, a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Championships, as well as bronze medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2023 World Championships, 2022 Asian Games, 2024 Asian Championships, and 2024 Summer Olympics. They are also the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win consecutive medals at the Olympic Games.
Kantaphon Wangcharoen is a Thai badminton player. At the young age, Wangcharoen became the runner-up in the senior tournament 2014 Singapore International in the men's singles event after losing the match because of foot injury. Wangcharoen clinched the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in the boys' singles event, also part of the junior team that won the mixed team bronze in 2014 and 2016, and Asian mixed team bronze in 2016.
Soh Wooi Yik is a Malaysian badminton player. A world champion and a double bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, he and his partner Aaron Chia became the first ever world badminton champions from Malaysia after winning the men's doubles title at the 2022 World Championships. Together, they also won a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games, a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Championships, as well as bronze medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2023 World Championships 2022 Asian Games, 2024 Asian Championships, and 2024 Summer Olympics. They are also the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win consecutive medals at the Olympic Games.
The Egypt national badminton team represents Egypt in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Egyptian Badminton Federation, the governing body for badminton in Egypt.
The Myanmar national badminton team represents Myanmar in international badminton team competitions. The best result for both men and women's team was a third place finish at the 1979 and 1995 Southeast Asian Games. The men's team was selected to take part in the 1976 Thomas Cup but failed to qualify into the first round.
Ng Tze Yong is a Malaysian badminton player. Ng won a bronze medal at the 2021 Sudirman Cup. He also helped Malaysian team to win gold at the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Jacky Kok Jing Hong is a Malaysian badminton player. In 2022, he won his first senior title at the Swedish Open.
Alwi Farhan Alhasny is an Indonesian badminton player. He was part of the Indonesia men's team squad that won gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games. He won the boys' singles title at the 2023 World Junior Championships.
The Cambodia national badminton team represents Cambodia in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Cambodia Badminton Federation. Cambodia have never competed in any BWF organized team tournaments.
The Timor-Leste national badminton team represents East Timor in international badminton competitions. While badminton is not a popular sport in East Timor, the nation has competed in tournaments such as the Asian Games and the BWF World Junior Championships.
Tay Wei Ming is a Singaporean para-badminton player. He was Singapore's first ever Para-Badminton world champion. He won the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in 2017, when he partnered Indonesia's Suryo Nugroho to defeat the World No.1 Malaysian pair of Cheah Liek Hou and Hairol Fozi Saaba to claim gold in the men’s doubles SU5.
The South Vietnam national badminton team represented the sovereign country of South Vietnam in international badminton competitions. The national team was controlled by the Republic of Vietnam Badminton Federation.
