Niger has sent athletes to all Summer Olympic Games held since 1964 except for 1976 and 1980. Only twice has the country won an Olympic medal: Issaka Daborg, who won a bronze medal in light welterweight boxing in 1972, and Abdoul Razak Issoufou, who won a silver medal in men's +80 kg taekwondo in 2016. No athletes from Niger have competed in any Winter Olympic Games.
Burundi participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China from 8 to 24 August 2008. It was Burundi's fourth appearance in the summer Olympics since its debut in 1996. The Burundi team included three athletes: runners Joachim Nshimirimana and Francine Niyonizigiye, as well as swimmer Elsie Uwamahoro. Niyonizigiye, a marathon runner, was flag bearer for the opening ceremony. None of the Burundi athletes progressed further than the qualifying round.
Niger competed at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, held in Singapore from 14 August to 26 August 2010.
Moustapha Abdoulaye Hima is a Nigerien boxer. He competed for Niger in the 2012 Summer Olympics as a welterweight. Abdoulaye Hima was Niger's flag bearer in the opening ceremony. On 29 July Abdoulaye Hima lost a 6-13 points decision in the Round of 32 to Cameron Hammond of Australia.
Niger competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Since the nation made its debut in 1964, Nigerien athletes had participated in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for two rare occasions, the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of the African and the US-led boycotts, respectively.
