Costa Rica competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004.
Costa Rica sent a delegation to compete at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, United States from 13–24 February 1980. This was Costa Rica's debut appearance at a Winter Olympic Games, after five prior appearances at Summer Olympics. The only athlete sent by the country was alpine skier Arturo Kinch. In the only event he finished, the men's downhill, he placed 41st.
Costa Rica participated in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Costa Rica competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Olympics, excluding four occasions from its national debut in 1936.
Gabriela Gerarda Traña Trigueros is a Costa Rican long-distance runner.
Allan Francisco Segura Medina is a Costa Rican race walker. He represented Costa Rica at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he became the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. He competed in the men's 20 km race walk, where he finished only in thirty-ninth place, with a time of 1:27:10. Segura also achieved his best result in race walking, when he finished thirty-second at the 2008 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Cheboksary, Russia, with the fastest possible time of 1:23:12.
David Fernández Tercero is a retired Costa Rican judoka, who competed in the men's extra lightweight category. Fernandez represented Costa Rica at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he was appointed as the nation's flag bearer by the National Olympic Committee in the opening ceremony. He qualified for the men's extra lightweight class (60 kg) by receiving an invitation from the International Judo Federation through a wild card entry. Fernandez ousted early in the opening match to Mexico's Cristobal Aburto, who scored two kokas and a seoi nage within a span of nearly three minutes.
