During the Parade of Nations at the 2011 Pan American Games opening ceremony, held beginning at 18:00 CDT on February 14, 2011, 42 athletes bearing the flags of their respective nations led their national delegations as they paraded into Omnilife Stadium in the host city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Cristián Escalante is a Chilean a weightlifter competing in the +105 kg category. Escalante has competed in three Pan American Games starting in 1999. Escalante in 1996 became the first weightlifter to qualify for the Olympics from Chile.

He competed in the men's 20 km race walk, where he finished only in thirty-ninth place, with a time of 1:27:10. Segura also achieved his best result in race walking, when he finished thirty-second at the 2008 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Cheboksary, Russia, with the fastest possible time of 1:23:12.

Panama competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's seventeenth appearance at the Summer Olympics, since its debut in 1928.

Ecuador made its winter games debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018. The only competitor was cross-country skier Klaus Jungbluth Rodriguez, who was also the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony.

2020 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations Opening ceremony event

During the Parade of Nations within the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, which took place on 23 July 2021, athletes and officials from each participating team entered the Olympic Stadium preceded by their flag and placard bearer. Each flag bearer will have been chosen either by the team's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. For the first time, each team had the option to allow two flag bearers, one male and one female, in an effort to promote gender equality. These Olympics were postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of athletes who paraded at this opening ceremony was much smaller than normal, which is also due to the new "2-week, 2-wave" system which is first used at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics, in which the athletes that competed at the first week paraded at the opening ceremony, and the athletes that compete at the second week paraded at the closing ceremony.

Cristina Hardekopf, also spelled Christina, is a diver who was Argentina's flag bearer at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. She was scheduled to compete in the Women's 3 metre springboard contest, but withdrew due to illness or an injury.
