This is a list of foreign players in the Ligue 1 , which commenced play in 1932. The following players must meet both of the following two criteria:

  1. Have played at least one Ligue 1 game. Players who were signed by Ligue 1 clubs, but only played in lower league, cup and/or European games, or did not play in any competitive games at all, are not included.
  2. Are considered foreign, i.e., outside France and its dependencies (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion Island or French Polynesia), determined by the following:
A player is considered foreign if he is not eligible to play for the national teams of France.

More specifically,

Clubs listed are those that the player has played at least one Ligue 1 game for.

Seasons listed are those that the player has played at least one Ligue 1 game in. Note that seasons, not calendar years, are used. For example, "1992-95" indicates that the player has played in every season from 1992–93 to 1994–95, but not necessarily every calendar year from 1992 to 1995.

In bold: players still active in Ligue 1 and their respective teams in current season.

The 2000–01 Ligue 1 season was the 63rd since its establishment. FC Nantes won the French Association Football League for the eighth time with 68 points.

AS Monaco won the 1977–78 Division 1 season of the French Association Football League with 53 points.

FC Nantes won Division 1 season 1976/1977 of the French Association Football League with 58 points.

AS Saint-Etienne won Division 1 season 1974/1975 of the French Association Football League with 58 points.

AS Saint-Etienne won the 1973–74 edition of the French Association Football League Division 1 season with 66 points.

AS Saint-Etienne won Division 1 season 1966/1967 of the French Association Football League with 54 points.

The 2004–05 Coupe de la Ligue, a knockout cup competition in French football organised by the Ligue de Football Professionnel, began on 5 October 2004. The final was held on 30 April 2005 at the Stade de France. RC Strasbourg defeated SM Caen 2–1 in the final.

The 2004–05 season was the 99th season in the existence of RC Strasbourg and the club's third consecutive season in the top flight of French football. In addition to the domestic league, Strasbourg participated in this season's edition of the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. The season covered the period from 1 July 2004 to 30 June 2005.
