The Balts or Baltic peoples are a group of peoples inhabiting the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea who speak Baltic languages. The Prix Goncourt is a prize in French literature, given by the académie Goncourt to the author of "the best and most imaginative prose work of the year". The prize carries a symbolic reward of only 10 euros, but results in considerable recognition and book sales for the winning author. Four other prizes are also awarded: prix Goncourt du Premier Roman, prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle, prix Goncourt de la Poésie (poetry) and prix Goncourt de la Biographie (biography). Of the "big six" French literary awards, the Prix Goncourt is the best known and most prestigious. The other major literary prizes include the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française, the Prix Femina, the Prix Renaudot, the Prix Interallié and the Prix Médicis.

The César Award is the national film award of France. It is delivered in the Nuit des César ceremony and was first awarded in 1976. The nominations are selected by the members of twelve categories of filmmaking professionals and supported by the French Ministry of Culture. The nationally televised award ceremony is held in Paris each year in February. The exact location has changed over the years. It is an initiative of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, which was founded in 1975.

Rakhshān Banietemad is an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Her title as the "First Lady of Iranian Cinema" references her prominence as a filmmaker and connotes her social role of merging politics and family in her work. Her signature style focuses on a character representing a part of society to explore while remaining objectively neutral. The first period of Banietemad's cinematic activity originates from dark humor whilst in the second period of her work the dark humor gives way to more serious, deeper and broader issues that are addressed and are influenced in films. Banietemad has a more balanced view of life.

<i>Longitude</i> (book) 1995 popular science book

Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time is a 1995 best-selling book by Dava Sobel about John Harrison, an 18th-century clockmaker who created the first clock (chronometer) sufficiently accurate to be used to determine longitude at sea—an important development in navigation. The book was made into a television series entitled Longitude. In 1998, The Illustrated Longitude was published, supplementing the earlier text with 180 images of characters, events, instruments, maps and publications.

Susan Sessions Zuccotti is an American historian, specializing in studies of the Holocaust. She holds a PhD in Modern European History from Columbia University. She has won a National Jewish Book Award for Holocaust Studies, and the Premio Acqui Storia – Primo Lavoro for Italians and the Holocaust (1987). She also received a National Jewish Book Award for Jewish-Christian Relations, and the Sybil Halpern Milton Memorial Prize of the German Studies Association in 2002 for Under His Very Windows (2000). She was married to real estate developer John Zuccotti until his death in 2015.

The Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award is an Iranian literary award presented yearly since 2008. Every year, an award is given to the best Iranian authors on the birthday of the renowned Persian writer Jalal Al-e Ahmad. The top winner receives 110 Bahar Azadi gold coins, making it Iran's most lucrative literary award. In some years there is no top winner, other notables receive up to 25 gold coins. Categories include "Novel", "Short story", "Literary criticism" and "History and documentations". The award was confirmed by the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council in 2005, the first award was presented in 2008.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mathias Énard</span> French novelist born 1972

Mathias Énard is a French novelist. He studied Persian and Arabic and spent long periods in the Middle East. He has lived in Barcelona for about fifteen years, interrupted in 2013 by a writing residency in Berlin. He won several awards for Zone, including the Prix du Livre Inter and the Prix Décembre, and won the Prix Goncourt/Le Choix de l’Orient, the Prix littéraire de la Porte Dorée, and the Prix du Roman-News for Rue des Voleurs. He won the 2015 Prix Goncourt for Boussole (Compass). In 2020 he was Friedrich Dürrenmatt Guest Professor for World Literature at the University of Bern.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rasul Jafarian</span> Iranian scholar and historian

Rasul Jafarian is an Iranian clergyman and researcher in field of Iranian history. He is currently the Professor of the Department of History at the University of Tehran, the Director of The specialized library on Islam and Iran, and the Director of the Central Library of the University of Tehran. Rasul Jafarian became a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran in June 2018 with the vote of the members of the General Assembly of the Academy of Sciences.

Atlas of Shia is a book in Persian language, written by Rasul Jafarian, which has been compiled in 743 pages and 12 chapters. According to The specialized library on Islam and Iran, "Atlas of Shia is an authorial-research work whose main purpose is to present a geographical-historical picture of the Shiites throughout the history of Islam from the beginning to the present. In this book, an attempt has been made to present the history of Shiism in the form of geographical maps and to show the limits of the progress of Shiism in every historical period and in every geographical point". The book present a geographical map to show the progress of Shiism in each historical period on a map. Atlas of Shia was unveiled at the 22nd Tehran International Book Fair with the presence of Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar. After unveiling the book at the book fair with a purchase restriction, public libraries and scientific centers could purchase the book at a 10% discount due to limited book circulation.

Namira is a novel in Persian language by Sadegh Karamyar. Its story is based on the Battle of Karbala. The book has been published by Neyestan Publications in Iran.
