The Maine Street Historic District in is a commercial area located in Fallon, Nevada. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.
The area was first populated in the 1900s when a ranch was founded by James W. Richards. Richards' ranch was purchased by state senator Warren W. Williams, who named the surrounding streets "Maine", named after his home state, Maine. He platted the land and introduced more buildings. A 1906 report noted that at that year, the center included a lively collection of general stores, saloons, hotels, restaurants, and drug stores, as well as a butcher, confectionery, bakery, bank, saddle shop, and furniture store. In June 2019, the district was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. City Councilwoman Kelly Frost expressed support for the addition, stating that it was "just going to further the work that we’ve already started doing in Fallon". [1] [3]
In 1954, a severe earthquake struck the area, which led to modernization. This happened because all the buildings in the district were destroyed, so people rebuilt them into a more contemporary style. [4] Typical modernization efforts included installing slipcovers over the existing façade, replacing existing wood windows, and adding awnings over entrances. These projects utilized contemporary materials, including aluminum siding, steel window frames, plate glass, asbestos tiles, and concrete brick. [2]

Fallon is a city in Churchill County in the U.S. state of Nevada. The population was 9,327 at time of the 2020 census. Fallon is the county seat of Churchill County and is located in the Lahontan Valley.
Congress Avenue is a major thoroughfare in Austin, Texas. The street is a six-lane, tree lined avenue that cuts through the middle of the city from far south Austin and goes over Lady Bird Lake leading to the Texas State Capitol in the heart of Downtown.
The East Second Street Commercial Historic District in Hastings, Minnesota, United States, is a downtown district consisting of thirty-five commercial buildings built between 1860 and 1900. The downtown area retained its historic integrity even as other communities modernized their downtowns as a result of post-World War II urban renewal efforts.
The Lamar Boulevard Bridge is a historic arch bridge carrying Texas State Highway Loop 343 over Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin, Texas, United States. The bridge features six open-spandrel concrete arches spanning 659 feet (201 m) and carries tens of thousands of vehicles daily across the lake. Completed in 1942, the Lamar Boulevard Bridge was the second permanent bridge to cross the Colorado River, and one of the last Art Deco-style open-spandrel concrete arch bridges built in Texas. The bridge was named an Austin Landmark in 1993 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
The Church Building is located at the corner of Main and Market Streets in downtown Poughkeepsie, New York, United States, just across Market Street from the Dutchess County Court House, and north of the Bardavon Theater. It is a complex of stores and other commercial space, so named because it is owned by the Reformed Dutch Church of Poughkeepsie, which has owned the land since 1717 and benefits from the rental income. It was the western anchor of Main Mall, the city's former pedestrian mall.
The Lewiston Main Post Office of Lewiston, Maine is located at 49 Ash Street in downtown Lewiston. Built in 1933 and enlarged in 1975, it is a fine local example of Colonial Revival architecture. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 as U.S. Post Office–Lewiston Main.
The Savings Bank Block is an historic commercial building at 215 Lisbon Street in downtown Lewiston, Maine. Built in 1870, it is a fine local example of commercial Second Empire architecture, and is representative of the city's early development as an industrial center. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The O’Kane Building is a historic commercial building in Bend, Oregon, United States. The structure was built in 1916 by Hugh O’Kane, a Bend businessman. The two-story building originally housed six retail stores and a theater on the first floor with twenty offices and an apartment upstairs. The building is located on the west corner of Oregon Avenue and Bond Street in downtown Bend. It has been in continuous use as a commercial building since it first opened. Today, the O’Kane Building is still the largest commercial structure in downtown Bend. Because of its importance to the history of Bend, the O’Kane Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The United States Courthouse, also known as the Federal Building, is a historic building located in Davenport, Iowa, United States. It has historically housed a post office, courthouse, and other offices of the United States government. The building now serves only as a federal courthouse, housing operations of the eastern division of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. In 2018, the operations of the Rock Island division of the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois were also moved there.
The Edward T. Gignoux U.S. Courthouse is a historic courthouse building at 156 Federal Street in Portland, Maine. It is the courthouse for the United States District Court for the District of Maine.
City Market is a historic building located in downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. In 2020 it was included as a contributing property in the Davenport Downtown Commercial Historic District.
The Burlington Montgomery Ward Building is a historic former department store building located at 52-54 Church Street, between Cherry and Bank Streets, in the Church Street Marketplace of downtown Burlington, Vermont. Built in 1929, it is a fine example of Classical Revival architecture, and is the best-preserved of the small number of original Montgomery Ward stores built by that retailer in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
The Rumford Falls Power Company Building is a historic commercial building at 59 Congress Street in the central business district of Rumford, Maine. This two-story Beaux Arts building was designed by New York City architect Henry J. Hardenbergh and built by Frank Bunker Gilbreth in 1906 for the Rumford Falls Power Company, the enterprise responsible for Rumford's main period of growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Colonial Theater is a historic movie theater at 139 Water Street in downtown Augusta, Maine. Built in 1913 and rebuilt after a fire in 1926, it is a fine example of Beaux Arts architecture, with features presaging the Art Deco movement. It is the last surviving movie theater building in downtown Augusta. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, at which time had been standing vacant for many years.
Argos Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Argos, Marshall County, Indiana. The district encompasses 21 contributing buildings in the central business district of Argos. It developed between about 1867 and 1942, and includes examples of Italianate, Romanesque Revival, and Neoclassical style architecture. The Libby-Hill Block is a historic commercial building at 227-233 Water Street in downtown Augusta, Maine. Built in 1866 by two prominent businessmen after a fire destroyed part of the downtown, it is one of the city's oldest granite commercial buildings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The Professional Building is a historic commercial building at 177-179 Main Street in Waterville, Maine. Built in 1923 to a design by Miller & Mayo of Portland, it is a rare early example of Art Deco architecture in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The Vickery Building is a historic commercial building at 261 Water Street in downtown Augusta, Maine. Built 1895 to a design by John C. Spofford, it is one of the downtown's few granite commercial buildings, built for Peleg O. Vickery, a leading publisher and three-term mayor of the city. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The New Center Commercial Historic District is a commercial historic district located on Woodward Avenue between Baltimore Street and Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
The Isaacson Building is a two-story commercial structure, built in 1918 of local granite. It is located in St. Johns, Arizona in Apache County.
