Mall Madness is a shopping themed board game released by Milton Bradley in 1988.
An electronic talking edition was released in 1988, followed by redesigns released in 1996, 2004, and 2020. [1]
The game's objective is to be the first player to purchase six items on the player's shopping list and return to the parking lot or their final destination. This final objective varies with each new edition of the game. The original shopping list objective was increased to ten items with the release of the 1989 and 1996 editions.
The setting for the board is a two-story shopping mall. The game is designed for two to four players. Each player receives $150 from a player who is designated as the banker. The banker dispenses cash in the following manner: one $50 bill, three $20 bills, three $10 bills, and two $5 bills. In the 1989 and 1996 versions, each player receives $200 in the following manner: two $50 bills, three $20 bills, three $10 bills, and two $5 bills. The first player presses the computer's gameplay button, which directs the player to move a random number of spaces. Players can navigate horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally. Players do not have to move the full count to enter a store and can only move into a store through its doors and not its walls. When arriving at a store, players can make purchases with their credit card by inserting it into the computer's "buy" slot. With each turn, an electronic voice announces a clearance at one store and sales at two others. Players can use these sales to their advantage to avoid using the game's ATM. After the player purchases items with a credit card (signified by a cash register sound), the player will pay the banker the appropriate amount of cash. Players can then mark that item off on their shopping list. Once a player buys an item from a particular store, they cannot return to that store. Once a player collects six of the items on their list, they must be the first to reach their respective parking lot (1989, 1996, and 2020 editions) or final destination (which may change at any time; 2004 and "Littlest Pet Shop" editions). The first person to accomplish this wins the game.
The 2020 version features a three-dimensional board [2] representing a mall and featuring two stories, a bank, and a speaker located in the center of the board. The stores located on the second floor are only accessible by stairs or elevator.
The original game featured two types of currency to accomplish the game's objective: paper cash and credit cards. Four credit cards were included, one for each player. The names of the credit cards are Fast Cash (from Good Cents Bank), Quick Draw (from Dollar Daze Bank), MEGAmoney (from Big Bucks Bank), and Easy Money (from Cash n' Carry Bank). In the 2004 edition, these cards were referred to as "cash cards".
The game has been designed for players ages 9+. Milton Bradley produced several commercials for the game that appear to target a younger female demographic.

Original versions of the game featured an electronic computer to dictate gameplay. All computers in the early version of the game were manufactured in the United States. Milton Bradley copyrighted the computer in 1989. The top of the computer featured three buttons; one to start or reset gameplay, one to begin and end turns, and one to repeat the last announcement. Two slots on the computer's top were designed for the credit cards that accompanied the game. One slot was to buy items, the other was to use the banking feature.

Milton Bradley released a line of digital electronic voice board games following Mall Madness. In 1990, Milton Bradley, under its Parker Brothers brand, released an updated version of the 1984 Mystery Mansion board game, adding an electronic voice device. In 1992, they released Omega Virus, a board game on a space station infected by an extraterrestrial computer virus. Unlike previous electronic voice games by Milton Bradley, Omega Virus was unique in that it was the only one that had a countdown timer that would end the game if not completed before time ran out. Michael Gray, the creator of Mall Madness, also designed Omega Virus and Dream Phone.
With the release of the 2020 edition, Julien McCluney, vice president of global brand strategy and marketing at Hasbro, told Bustle, “In the original Mall Madness – as well as the new edition – the game is centered around the exciting experience of going on a shopping spree with friends, the fact that so many adults reminisce about the original [game] more than 30 years after its initial release speaks volumes to its place in pop culture!” [4]
Acquire is a board game published by 3M in 1964 that involves multi-player mergers and acquisitions. It was one of the most popular games in the 3M Bookshelf games series published in the 1960s, and the only one still published in the United States.

Stratego is a strategy board game for two players on a board of 10×10 squares. Each player controls 40 pieces representing individual officer and soldier ranks in an army. The pieces have Napoleonic insignia. The objective of the game is to either find and capture the opponent's Flag or to capture so many enemy pieces that the opponent cannot make any further moves. Stratego has simple enough rules for young children to play but a depth of strategy that is also appealing to adults.
Milton Bradley Company or simply Milton Bradley (MB) was an American board game manufacturer established by Milton Bradley (1836-1911) in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1860. In 1920, it absorbed the game production of McLoughlin Brothers, formerly the largest game manufacturer in the United States. It was acquired by Hasbro in 1984, and merged with their subsidiary Parker Brothers in 1998. The brand name continued to be used by Hasbro until 2009.
Axis & Allies is a series of World War II strategy board games. The first version was initially published in 1981 and a second edition known colloquially as Axis & Allies: Classic was published in 1984. Played on a board depicting a Spring 1942 political map of Earth divided by territories, players take the role of one or more of the five major belligerents of World War II: the Axis powers of Germany and Japan; and the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Turns rotate among these belligerents, who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture enemy territories, with results determined by dice rolls. The object of the game is to win the war by capturing enough critical territories to gain the advantage over the enemy.
Candy Land is a simple racing board game created by Eleanor Abbott and published by Milton Bradley in 1948. The game requires no reading and minimal counting skills, making it suitable for young children. No strategy is involved as players are never required to make choices; only following directions is required. About one million copies per year are sold.
Battleship is a strategy type guessing game for two players. It is played on ruled grids on which each player's fleet of warships are marked. The locations of the fleets are concealed from the other player. The game manual describes Morcar/Zargon as a former apprentice of Mentor, and the parchment text is read aloud from Mentor's perspective. The Gamemaster Series of board games consists of five war simulation games released by the game company Milton Bradley beginning in 1984. The games were not developed "in-house" by Milton Bradley, with each game initially published in limited runs by smaller game publishers in the early 1980s before their rights were acquired by Milton Bradley. Despite this, some modern reissues of these games refer to the Milton Bradley versions as the "first edition" of each game.

Barrel of Monkeys is a toy game released by Lakeside Toys in 1965. It was created by Leonard Marks and Milton Dinhofer in 1961, and in 1964, Herman Kesler partnered to sell it to Lakeside Toys, which released it in 1965. It was then produced by the Milton Bradley Company, and Hasbro. Milton Bradley's editions consisted of a toy barrel in either blue, yellow, red, purple, orange, gray or green. The barrel contains 13 monkeys but can hold 24, their color usually corresponding to the barrel's color. The instructions state, "Dump monkeys onto table. Pick up one monkey by an arm. Hook other arm through a second monkey's arm. Continue making a chain. Your turn is over when a monkey is dropped." In addition to these basic instructions, the barrel also contains instructions for playing alone or with two or more players.
Perfection is a game originally produced by the Pennsylvania company Reed Toys and then by the Milton Bradley company. The object is to put all the pieces into matching holes on the board before the time limit runs out. When time runs out, the board springs up, causing many, if not all, of the pieces to fly out. In the most common version, there are 25 pieces to be placed into a 5×5 grid within 60 seconds.
Littlest Pet Shop is a video game of the Littlest Pet Shop franchise for Microsoft Windows, Wii, and DSiWare. The game was released in North America on October 14, 2008. A second version was released on October 20, 2009, followed by a third version released on October 5, 2010.
The Game of Life, also known simply as Life, is a board game originally created in 1860 by Milton Bradley as The Checkered Game of Life, the first ever board game for his own company, the Milton Bradley Company. The Game of Life was US's first popular parlour game. The game simulates a person's travels through their life, from early adulthood to retirement, with college if necessary, jobs, marriage, and possible children along the way. Up to six players, depending on the version, can participate in a single game. Variations of the game accommodate up to ten players.
Mystery Mansion is the name of a series of board games in which players search furniture and other objects inside a mansion to locate a hidden treasure or stash of money.
Littlest Pet Shop is an animated musical children's television series produced by DHX Media and Hasbro Studios. The series is based on the Littlest Pet Shop and Blythe toylines by Hasbro and was broadcast on Discovery Family from November 10, 2012 to June 4, 2016. It centers on Blythe Baxter, a teen girl who, after moving into an apartment in a city named Downtown City, gains the ability to communicate with animals. Located below her apartment is the eponymous pet store where Blythe works and talks to a group of pets who regularly reside at a daycare in the shop. Worried that a corrupt rival business might drive their shop out of business, it is up to Blythe to drive business into the store with her pet fashion designs.
Michael Gray is an American game designer from rural Massachusetts known for his board game designs for Milton Bradley. He eventually became the Senior Director of Global Concept Acquisition for Hasbro's games division. Game reviewer Tom Vasel has called him "the wisest man in all of board gaming."
Park and Shop was a popular board game sold by the Milton-Bradley Company of Springfield, MA. Developed shortly after World War II, it has similarities to Monopoly in that the game’s genesis is based on a city in the United States, in this case, Allentown, PA. The game was designed “For ages 7 to adult” and was advertised as “The Nation’s Traffic Game Sensation.”
