Mars Canada Ltd is the Canadian division of Mars, Incorporated, a privately held multi-national company and a world leader in food, pet care products, and confectionery products.

Company history

The Canadian division began its operation in the late 1940s as a branch of Uncle Ben's Inc. In 1967, the first Canadian office was opened in Montreal, moving to Toronto in 1972. In 1974, the branch was replaced by a Canadian limited company and named Effem Foods Ltd., [2] which was named after the original founder Frank, his wife Ethel, and their son Forrest E. Mars. In 1998, the company was renamed Effem Inc. [2] The current name began use in 2007. [2] In that same year, Effem was selected as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, as published in Maclean's magazine. [3]

Office locations

Mars Canada's National Office is located in Bolton, Ontario, 20 minutes north of Pearson International Airport.

Also located in Bolton is the petfood manufacturing facility and the food manufacturing facility.

The confectionery manufacturing facility is located in Newmarket, Ontario, 40 minutes north-east of the National Office.

Celebrations is a miniature chocolate bar collection made by Mars, Incorporated, launched in 1997. It comprises miniature versions of full size Mars brands. Celebrations have the tagline "Share the joy", and were one of the first mixed box of chocolates in the United Kingdom to bring together confectionery which had been already released in one box or tin instead of introducing new, especially-created confectionery made exclusively for the UK market, by a major producer. Celebrations boxes are now sold in multiple countries which tend to have the same brands as the UK, but do differ in some circumstances. For example, Twix are not available in Celebrations boxes purchased in Australia.

The Zero candy bar, introduced in 1920, is a candy bar composed of a combination of caramel, peanut and almond nougat covered with a layer of white chocolate fudge. "Cookies &" was a brand of cookie treats from the parent company Mars, Incorporated. In the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and the Netherlands, Cookies & was sold as "Bisc &". Mars Nederland is the Dutch division of Mars, Incorporated, a privately held multi-national company in food, pet care products, and confectionery products. It has its headquarters and main production site in Veghel, North Brabant known as Mars Nederland B.V. A second production site is located in Oud-Beijerland, South Holland. The chocolate factory in Veghel is the largest production site owned by Mars, Incorporated, and is among the largest chocolate factories in the world.
